Meet DJ Bridwell | Singer/Songwriter & Third and James Recording artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Bridwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up a 3rd generation musician, and watching both my Mother and Father playing country music in their own band. It seemed liked the right thing to do. For most of my early childhood and teenage years although I enjoyed listening to my parents band, I had no real interest in being a part of the music scene. That would change about the age of 18 when I taught myself how to play drums and joined my first band. Fast forward 3 or 4 years and a couple bands later, one as a drummer and one as a bass player, I then taught myself how to play guitar. When I was 22 my daughter was born and I quit the music scene all together until writing my first song at 26 after a breakup. I dabbled in recording a couple original songs during the next 3 years or so and then was asked to play my first ever show at 29 and that was the birth of the DJ Bridwell (Band).

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Just like anything in life, anything good takes focus and hard work. Nothing was easy about trying to build our brand, but one of the most life and career changing moments was to stop focusing on the goods and bads of others and trying to be better than someone else. I use this statement quite frequently if I get caught up in a moment and that is “Shut your mouth and let the product do the talking”. To me its a reminder to myself and others around me that if we produce quality, genuine and heartfelt music for our listeners that our product will sell itself. People thrive off of being real and relatable. The music industry or more specifically the art of “Original Music” is no different.
My Mom had told me in the early years of the performing, to sing with conviction, make people believe and feel the message that I am sending. To this day I wont perform a song that I feel I cant make people believe the message.
In a nutshell through all of the lessons learned after well over 1000 performances is to never take it for granted. During the 2020 Covid 19 shutdown we as artist were all out of work for a great deal of time. We had more time to focus on our families and do some of the things we werent doing prior. Having friends over for bbqs and drinks, playing yard games, taking the kids fishing and spending more time at the lake. It was truly one of the best summers Ive ever had, however I truly missed one large part of my life and that is sharing my message to others thru music that we have created.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One spot that I frequent whether it is by myself or with others as much as 20 times a year in the past has been Estes Park CO. Not for the same reason so many others do however. Sure there are a few times I will take an early morning drive up Trail Ridge, but I love to go to the Wheel Bar downtown Estes, In short I wont visit Estes without going there at least for a couple drinks. I dont know if its the peaceful drive up canyon or just the feel of being detached from almost everything but its a must do for me!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and my kids, Although there are a ton of people that have helped directly to the success of our brand. My family and my kids have been the ones to show the most support when it mattered most. Ultimately they have had many missed weekends or family events because we are on the rehearsing, recording or playing shows. But they are still the first ones to root me on.
