We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Ally Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Ally, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Our company was founded on the idea that women athletics can and should be operating and making decisions regarding of their own athletic careers. We continue to pour time, money, and effort into this belief and idea. Our company and its mission is bigger than us. We take this mission very seriously and center past, current, and future fastpitch softball players when times get hard. This helps energize me to work through challenges. I am grateful to have the ability to create space for women athletes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love challenging the normative culture while empowering people and communities. I love building partnerships, connecting with communities and meeting women who have or used to play fastpitch and reminding them that they still can play and have what it takes to keep playing the game they love. I love how our business is about empowering women to make decisions about their league. We care about each other on and off the field and work hard to give back to the communities where we live, and love. Our story is about showing just how smart, strong, and capable women are.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to my favorite restaurant- D’ Corazon, the history museum downtown, to the nuggets game, and Red Rocks for a hike and to catch a concert.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom has always believed in me and has supported all my interests and identities. She encouraged me to bring my entire self into every space I entered- I could be tough on the field and still be soft and tender. She is a strong women who I look up to and am grateful for her love and guidance.
