Meet Dr. Erica Abraham | Chiropractor, Owner of Axon Health

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Erica Abraham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Erica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We abruptly quit our jobs when the environment was becoming too toxic for us. We didn’t know what the next step would be and we had only a small amount of money saved up. We were at a crossroads: do we accept new jobs, or do we start our own business? Ultimately, the new job offers were at competing clinics and wanted us to sign non-disclosures. With the amount of time we were used to spending with each other, progressing to the point where we could hardly tell each other about our day didn’t seem to sit well with us. We started our own business.
The problem was the pandemic. We had no patients, no income, and no way to pay our overhead if COVID threatened to shut things down again. We decided to go mobile and cut our costs immensely. The initial vision was to eventually open up a location, but after doing market research into mobile chiropractic (I would also recommend doing this BEFORE you start a business, not after… whoops), did we realize that there were only 2 other mobile chiropractors in all of the Colorado Springs area. Since then, one has moved away and we have absorbed this practice. What we learned is that there is currently a potentially huge market for mobile chiropractic in the Springs, and we have the opportunity to become known as THE mobile chiropractors in the Springs. No longer are we anticipating opening a brick-and-mortar clinic. The vision has changed completely and it’s all thanks to COVID.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Axon Health is a mobile chiropractic practice serving the Colorado Springs region. We like to say we save your spine, and your time, by coming to you. Not only can you expect convenience, but you can expect high-quality treatment from chiropractors who care about you and your overall health.
Getting our business started was simple enough as we didn’t have a brick-and-mortar clinic to set up. The struggle came in when it came to paying our bills in the beginning. We had to work Grub Hub/DoorDash, Nick worked at Red Robin for a bit, and I donated plasma to make ends meet. The business has since picked up and we can rely on the income from Axon Health a lot more. We were working from the moment our eyes opened, to the moment our eyes closed, 7 days a week. It was a lot. The thing I kept asking myself was “how badly do you want this to work?” And it kept me going for several months of working this way.
I want the world to know that our vision is to eventually be the place people turn to for most types of mobile health care service. We want provide Colorado Springs (and the surrounding areas) with high-quality mobile chiropractic care, mobile massage therapy, mobile physical therapy, and many other types of mobile care. We want to decrease patient’s driving time and waiting room time so that they can spend more time on other important things like time with family, work and their career, or time to themselves.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Garden of the Gods is always our first stop. It was here that I knew we needed to live in Colorado Springs after graduation. Weather permitting, we’d probably take them up Pike’s Peak. We also LOVE to hike, so everyone knows that when they visit, we’re going hiking. Some of the more daring visitors choose to do the Incline with us.
Some of our favorite places to take people to eat/drink include: King Chef Diner, Paravicini’s, Sasquatch Cookies, Shame and Regret, Josh and John’s, Bird-Dog BBQ, and Vaquero’s.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kye Quesinberry. A former-chiropractor-turned-realtor in the Springs who has given us so much encouragement and advice in starting out. She is a military wife and started successful chiropractic clinics wherever they moved.
