We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Lara Osterhaus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Lara, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I began in my profession, I was 100% committed to providing true connection and the best adjustments. I wanted to put everything I had into my work and connection is a strong suit for me. The problem with that though, is being a chiropractor requires a lot of empathy and emotional energy. I took a lot of other people’s emotional problems home with me and couldn’t disconnect from those I was caring for. I began to realize I had to have a balance and disengage when I left each and every day. Now I show up, and love on my patients and give them the best care possible… but when I leave each day, I leave their physical and emotional pain behind. I head home with a clear brain and heart so I can show up for my family the best version of myself.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a chiropractor, I focus on the body as a whole. Adjustments to the spine and nervous system allow the body to adapt and thrive, and my favorite aspect of chiropractic is prenatal and pediatric care. I specialize in pregnancy and children, mainly to prevent issues from arriving at a later time. To be truly specialized in this type of chiropractic care, I had to take an extensive certification course through the ICPA. After countless hours of seminars, webinars, and a thorough written examination, I am one of a select few in the Northern Colorado area that has this certification.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A perfect weekend would be a combo of mountain life and Fort Collins life. We’d head up the Poudre Canyon to one of my favorite spots, Picnic Rock, to lounge by the river. Next up would be Horsetooth Reservoir and a hike up to the top of Horestooth Rock. We’d celebrate our outdoorsy-ness by making a few stops to the breweries in Fort Collins and to do a little shopping in Old Town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to Dr. Elise Rigney. Six years ago, she took a chance on me when I was brand new and eager to learn as much as I could. She guided my journey in becoming the doctor I am today. I couldn’t thank her enough for allowing me to join her in practice and serve the northern Colorado community as a team!
