We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Tasha Seiter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Tasha, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Every day, I am inspired by my clients who bravely show up to couples therapy, even though it is scary. As humans, we have all sorts of reasons to avoid our emotions at all costs, but my clients take emotional risks every day in my office, and their relationships deepen and heal because of it. Couples therapy is all about “scuba diving” into the feelings of pain, hurt, sadness, or fear lurking underneath the surface of destructive cycles. Couples usually aren’t aware of the underlying feelings that are driving their protective responses. In therapy, we work to identify, investigate, and experience these vulnerable feelings and the important messages they convey. Uncovering these “softer” emotions and risking to share them directly with our partners is the secret to a deeper emotional bond because sharing vulnerability naturally pulls for compassion and is the foundation for intimacy. My clients inspire me by sharing their vulnerable feelings, even when they are scared. Taking these risks is challenging, but ultimately pays off with greater emotional intimacy and understanding.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Heart of the Matter Therapy and Coaching, we are a team of highly-trained relationship therapy specialists who practice science-backed and compassionate methods of therapy. We offer couples, individual, and family therapy in Fort Collins and online throughout the state. With advanced training in the most evidence-based couples therapy methods, including Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Method Couples Therapy, we use the most effective methods in our practice to move couples toward secure, joyful relationships. We help couples find a way out of the patterns that they’re stuck in by learning how to communicate in more authentic and vulnerable ways. New ways of communicating restructure the very foundation of relationships and change our clients’ lives!

I feel so much pride in our practice and the high-quality therapy that we offer our city and the state. It is my life purpose to help clients improve their relationships and help therapists find excellent careers that support them as well.
That being said, expanding a business is no easy task, and the road has been full of bumps and detours! I’m still learning how to balance the excitement that I have about my work with the rest of my life (my relationships, health, and need for fun). Particularly while expanding my business, I’ve felt like there aren’t enough hours in the day. There were times when I just didn’t think I’d be able to handle another crisis (think client crises and flooding offices). Here’s to continued growth!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am so lucky to live in Fort Collins. I spend much of my time biking on the bike paths here, hiking on the trails, and swimming in the lakes and ponds. If I have a friend in town, they know we will be going up the Poudre Canyon to hike along the river or see a concert at the Mishawaka. We’ll also go paddle-boarding on Horsetooth Reservoir (weather permitting) and grabbing food at one of my favorite Thai, Indian, or Mexican food spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my incredibly supportive family and friends. Having you all alongside me has helped me feel like I am not doing this alone!
