We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew Schettler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drew, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to pursue more creative freedom. As an artist freedom to express my vision was crucial. While owning my own business has it’s challenges, the flexibility to create my own schedule and call my own shots makes every ounce of opposition worth it. My main purpose to venture out on my own started with independence but it also underscored my passion to create emotional stories for clients all around the country.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey into filmmaking started unexpectedly. I first explored visual storytelling in a college photography class, but it wasn’t until 2015, using a Canon T3i, that I taught myself video. In 2018, I launched Resonate Films full-time, starting with churches and nonprofits before shifting to creating evocative films for timeless brands. Along the way, I’ve also pursued personal projects, including short films and now writing a feature-length script.

The path hasn’t been easy. Tight budgets, time constraints, and constant growth pushed me to adapt and refine my craft. Through those challenges, I’ve learned that storytelling is about much more than visuals—it’s about creating work that moves and inspires people.

Resonate Films exists to tell stories that matter. Whether it’s a brand film or a personal journey, the goal is always to create something that truly resonates and stands the test of time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d keep it simple and memorable. We’d hike to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, catch a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and see an Avalanche game. I love tacos so any place with great Mexican would be good. And of course we’d go watch a movie!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give my biggest shoutout to my family. Filmmaking often takes me on the road and demands some pretty odd hours, but they’ve always had my back and supported me every step of the way. I’m also deeply grateful to the incredible people in my life—friends, mentors, and those who’ve encouraged me throughout my career.

And of course, I have to thank my amazing clients. I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about clients who try to control every aspect of the creative process, but I’ve been fortunate to work with people who trust me to take their vision and turn it into something meaningful. It’s a privilege to bring their ideas to life.
