We had the good fortune of connecting with Dwight “Coach D” Braswell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dwight “Coach D”, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
My number one goal with both Complete Sales Academy and Flag Football with Coach D is to build confidence and provide specific tools EXACTLY when the customer needs them. Most of the coaches of flag football I work with are first-timers and have no idea what to expect. They are not only lost, but freaking out. When I’m able to provide them playbooks, practices schedules, drill packs, and templates they are able to walk out on that field for the first time with confidence. They are free to be present and make an impact. Which is pretty cool. With the Complete Sales Academy (CSA), it’s all about customization. Any sales trainer can provide templates and scripts, but the reason why I started CSA was because I believe no one can customize the exact sales, leadership, and motivation resources startups need to hit their aggressive growth goals like I can. As a consultant and even an in-house trainer, I saw the need and the gap, and decided to fill it with CSA. Seeing a massive need, and knowing I was uniquely set up and qualified to fill it made the decision fairly easily.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Complete Sales Academy is a business built on over 20 years in the trenches as a sales rep, leader, trainer, consultant, investor, and founder. The remarkable part is where our business comes from; past clients, sales reps, leaders, trainees that I’ve worked closely with before. They reach out when there is a training gap in their new organization and they need a customized solution. They reach out because they know they will get 100% of my effort to make them not only look incredible, but get long-lasting results specific to their needs. The reason I’ve been able to deliver is because I customize everything. I spend the time in the trenches looking for the scalable secrets and then package them in a way that delivers results beyond expectations. Then what usually happens is, once we build a program or playbook for one department or function, the word spreads and we are brought in to do the same across the organization. I always say, “this stuff works” because it does. Now we build customized motivation, leadership, and sales training programs and offsites for fast growing startups. We also just launched our Complete Sales Rep and Leader Bootcamps online for those around the world who can’t be part of our customized trainings. We are taking what works global to help sales reps and leaders step into their role with confidence and double or even triple their commissions!

I took this same skillset into the flag football world when my wife unexpectedly signed me up to coach my 5 year old son’s team 8 years ago. I had NO IDEA what to do and there were no resources out there. So about 2 years ago, I started building playbooks, practices, drill packs, and templates and now I help new coaches all over the world step on the field with confidence with all the resources they need to become the Complete Coach!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a big fan of running, and while consulting with a few companies downtown I used to run around the Broncos Empower Stadium. Since I’m a huge Denver Broncos fan, this would be a must. I would take them on my route through the Tivoli and Metro State campus, across the lightrail tracks and under the I-25 underpass, past the employee backlot for Elitches, over that little creek and finally up those 20+ steps to the gates of the stadium. We’d take a quick visit to their fan shop and I’d buy them a beanie or hoodie to keep them warm. Because I have 2 younger kids (now 12 & 14), but back in the day we’d always go to the Children’s Museum and Aquarium for a full day adventure. So I’d have to make our way there to remember the good ol’ days. We’d climb up the outside structures, where we’d barely fit and play with bubbles or make paper airplanes like kids. We’d touch the stingrays and maybe catch a few mermaids as we ate at the Aquarium restaurant. If we got bored we’d make our way back across I-25 to MeowWolf and participate in their scavenger hunt that lands us at the light-up castle. We’d discuss all the incredible rooms and share which was our favorite as we watched and listened to the drum-kit play itself. Once done there we’d have to go to Izakaya next to Sushi Den near University and order their Yellowtail appetizer. It’s the best. We’d order sushi including a shrimp tempura roll, dragon roll, and Philadelphia roll if they still have it. I’d have a Moscow Mule and they’d have hot sake which we’d likely share. Since I got my MBA at UC Denver, I’d also have to take them to Larimer Square for shopping or a drink (Bao Brewhouse or the Capital Grille bar) and possibly go to the 16th Street Mall for additional shopping. If we’re brave enough we’ll jump on a few Limes and scooter over. There is so much to do – from Cherry Creek to Lodo to Wash Park, it’s always tough to decide. We’d have to plan many trips so we could fit it all in!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My high school sweetheart and wife, Maritza should take most of the credit. It’s her constant belief in me that gives me the courage to take leaps that others would think are crazy. It’s her support that allows me to take risks that most would never dare attempt. It’s that partnership that has created the path of success both behind and in front of us.
