We had the good fortune of connecting with ego n friends and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ego n friends, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Collaboration is the bread and butter to my brand as an artist. I decided to release music as ‘ego n friends’ at the start of this year because I saw how much collaboration my music had. There’s usually at least one collaborator per release. When I perform, I at least have one friend fly out, and for headline shows at least two from across the nation.

At the same time, finding dope artists in Denver is key. Denver has a lot of talent but the industry out here is so competitive. Very few Hip Hop artists gain notability because people don’t communicate and work together for the greater good.

Venues rarely book hiphop shows because artists struggle to build a fanbase. Artist’s struggle to build a fanbase because venue’s rarely book them. It’s a never ending cycle.

When Hip-Hop shows are booked, they usually are 10+ artist lineups, which typically bores audience members, but pulls in enough of a crowd to justify booking the show. Sadly during these shows, people only show up for their friend and then leave after. I aim to change that in Denver, and collaboration is the key to this all. As a headliner, I will never book more than 4 openers for my shows, and openers will receive 30 minute sets at least. No more talent shows, we’re putting on real events that people want to go to.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began my frontman journey when my friend Gray aka Graymattr asked me to perform at his show. He put me down as Direct Support, right before him at the Aggie Theater. This show changed my musical journey entirely, I quickly became addicted to performing. The music I’ve been writing recently has been created solely to perform. The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the last year has been to avoid asking people to “come support your local artist” and rather ask people to “come join our party or they will truly miss out”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
