We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Cutler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Julie, my business partner, and I from SoulCycle started looking at the science of connection and the ways in which people feel most connected to themselves and others. Because that’s what we found in the room at SoulCycle..
We also learned the hard way, how important it is, to actively listen to another person, and the power of taking a few minutes to suspend your own beliefs in order to understand what it’s like to stand in another person’s shoes.
Those things lead us to creating Peoplehood, which is a 60 minute facilitated conversation Circle that allows us to see ourselves in other people, develop the most powerful skills required for connection, and most of all have the opportunity to hear ourselves think in uninterrupted manner. The experience is profound, and always leaves us feeling better than when we started.
We think in five years time, we will all be having a strong focus on own social health. If you look at the studies that have come out recently whether it’s from the Surgeon General, or from that 85 year Harvard study, the leading indicator of health is rooted in our relationships.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Social health is becoming a powerful pillar of wellness. Peoplehood was created to meet that need. In 60 minutes individuals, couples, or work teams can experience a different kind of connection with each other and ourselves. We do this both online and in person, and Chelsea, New York.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week long trip would definitely take me to Telluride. I would stop in Ridgway to soak at Orvis Hot Springs. Then I would get some thing to eat at lotus root, and head up the mountain to Telluride. I love driving into town and seeing the waterfalls. Ii like to stock up on cheese and crackers and yummy bits at Over the Moon (good hiking supplies!) and head to Lunch Money for grab and go Lunch or dinner! I would hike up Bear Creek and Bridal Veil Trail and ride the gondola. So much fun to be had!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business partner, Julie Rice has been an incredible inspiration to so many people including myself. She is a true visionary, who is willing to do what it takes to bring experiences to life. She always strives for excellence and making, in the words of Steve Jobs, “something wonderful”.
