We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Denny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
It makes me happy when I’m able to make a positive change in someone’s life. I love to help anyone (or anything) in need, so when I am able to make someone smile, give them a hand up, or provide a solution to a problem, my heart is happy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Positive Change Movement was formed in 2018 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (since dissolved), which strives to connect people with volunteer opportunities, service projects, and ways to give back to the community. Over the past 5+ years, I regularly received requests from the community about volunteer opportunities or where to donate items, time, or money. I noticed a trend – there wasn’t a central resource for people in my former county of San Luis Obispo County, CA for the community to obtain information about giving back. My organization is mostly remote and social media based, with a heavy emphasis on non-profit and community program networking. I’m proud of my efforts with The Positive Change Movement, as it has nearly 3,000 Facebook followers, 1300+ Instagram followers, and has reached people all around the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to Red Rocks Amphitheater/Morrison area, Rino district, Coors Field for a Rockies game, Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park. There are way too many breweries and restaurants to visit, so I would have a tough time narrowing it down! Sushi Uchi has amazing Japanese food, Rails End Brewery has great beers, and Ironton Distillery makes yummy craft cocktails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I read the book “Pay It Forward” by Catherine Ryan Hyde, it proved to be a great start to discovering my life-long passion to spread kindness, help others, and create a positive ripple of change in the world. This book was set in my hometown of Atascadero, CA and I was lucky enough to meet the author and help organize a private showing of the 2000 movie “Pay It Forward”, starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, and Haley Joel Osment.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Pay It Forward concept, it’s a simple and easy idea to incorporate into your life. It starts with one person performing an act of kindness to three people. Those three people pass on their own acts of kindness to three more people, resulting in nine people receiving a kind gesture. The overall idea is to create a positive ripple effect in the world, ideally with each person paying it forward and continuing to grow a kindness movement.
