Meet Elizabeth Prentiss | Brand Designer and Mentor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Prentiss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, what matters most to you?
Integrity matters deeply to me, both personally and professionally. As a faith-led business owner, integrity is the foundation of my guiding principles. I believe in doing what is right in every situation and have found that building a business offers countless opportunities for choosing between right and wrong. As a creator in the digital space, working with fellow small business owners daily, concerns with copyrights, trademarks, intellectual property laws, and just being a decent human surface regularly. Knowing that I stand firm on my beliefs and integrity keeps me focused and steady when those difficult situations or hard conversations happen. I am all about using examples of work found online or in print as inspiration or a guide for the overall style and mood of a design I am creating, but I pride myself on creating brands for my clients that are completely unique and tailored to the client and their business with great care and individuality. My clients know that I will refuse to copy logo designs they see online and won’t make their website copy or images mimic someone else’s in their industry. I have wonderful clients and thankfully, this has never been an issue, just an ethical policy that I stick to like glue. In addition, my clients can rest assured that I will stand by this principle in defense of their business and property as well. I believe that acting with integrity affects every part of our lives and can be the difference between success and failure in business, relationships, our spiritual journey and so much more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a brand designer with over 6 years in business, my work is constantly evolving and improving. As a creative in the business world, we not only have our hands in art, creativity, and natural talent or gifting, but we must understand and implement business, marketing, and financial wisdom and knowledge as well. For an artistic type, this can be such a struggle. The right brain, left brain idea of creative vs. analytical may still apply to us in general, but as artisans and business owners, we must learn to balance both sides, strengthening our weaker points with education, grit, and when possible, delegation. I have learned that the solopreneur journey is a beautiful and powerful one, full of growth and stretching out of our comfort zones to learn how to wear all of the hats, but it is my firm belief that most businesses work best for the long haul when they embrace the beauty of community and collaboration. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and as a part o a whole, human beings are meant to compliments and support each other. This has been one of the greatest revelations I’ve discovered in my years as a business owner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Grand Junction has been my home for 14 years and I am still scratching the surface of things to experience in this small, bustling city. Our downtown area is an absolute gem with darling shops, galleries, great food, and beautiful shade trees throughout. Be sure to stop by Goat and Clover for yummy pub food with a great vibe. Around town, you’ll need a Lavender London Fog from Sweet Kiwi coffee shop before going antiquing at Redeemed Treasures antique mall. Don’t forget to tour the Colorado Mesa University campus before heading out of town to see what all the fuss is really about in the Grand Valley. Our outdoor attractions are second to none with mountains surrounding us on three sides and hiking, biking, and ATV trails galore. Camp under the stars or check out the Colorado National Monument. Visit the Gateway Canyons Resort or go on a dinosaur fossil dig. Just be sure to bring a hat and lots of water. Bonus points for stickers on your water bottle! Finally, try to time your visit around one of the many festivals in the Valley like the Peach festival, Mike the Headless Chicken Days, or Food Truck Fridays. So much going on all year long!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the divine providence of my God and Saviour. I have been led every step of the way by His faithful guidance. The tireless support and beautiful friendship of Kasandra Rea, my best friend and sister in Christ, has been my rock in all of the moments when I doubted myself and felt like I wasn’t good enough. Thank you for always keeping my eyes fixed on what matters most. I love you.
