We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Stolp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I’m not a fan of the whole idea of “Fake it till you make it.” I believe more in the idea of gaining experience with authentic passion, experiencing some failure and then learning from those mistakes. This, in my opinion, is critical for personal and professional growth.

Pretending to be an expert can be a misguided behavior. Transparency, honesty and dedicated practice are pillars to building anything successful.

For me, integrity and passion are foundational characteristics. My advice is to go out and fail and then tell me what you’ve learned. Experience is always the best teacher and it’s OK not to fake it to make it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my professional life I am a Community Engagement Leader for a Financial Services Organization called Thrivent. I get to interact with community leaders in Colorado Springs and build partnerships to help grow the organization. I get energy from passionate people and am grateful for the opportunity to build impactful relationships that benefit the communities we live in.

One lesson I’ve learned in my over 10 years with Thrivent is that people can have life changing impact, both big and small. You may not realize how a small act can potentially lead to a lifelong ripple effect in a person. A seemingly meaningless interaction to you could be a light changing moment for another. I’ve seen those transformational moments develop and can also recall moments in time that have changed the course of my own life and career. Meet people with an open mind and listen to their story, you never know how it could change your own.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here in the Colorado Springs area you’d have to see Garden of the Gods, the Glen Eyrie Castle, the top of Pikes Peak and if your up for it a trip up the Manitou Incline. We’d eat at one of the many great spots downtown and check out a Air Force Football game or maybe a Switchbacks game at their new stadium.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My creative journey with photography is still in its infancy stage and I aspire to get better everyday. I would like to give a shoutout to my wife Sarah, for partnering with me to prioritize outdoor adventures in ours and our kids lives. She’s the one who encourages and motivates me to go out and be better on a daily basis. Without her, my creative pursuits in landscape photography wouldn’t exist. So huge shoutout to her!
