We had the good fortune of connecting with Ever Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ever, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For me, starting my own business is something I just always wanted to do. Although I didn’t really know how, I just wanted to do it… I had no influence, or family, or even recourses. But I knew it in my heart… The process was still very difficult though. Saving money, building confidence, and establishing a reputation before I really went all in.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Dj Ever Lee
Former Baltimore DJ champion
Former L.A. DJ champion
2x Denver DJ champion
I think a common misconception is that talented DJ’s are the most successful. The industry of entertainment (specifically DJing) is sort of complicated… Because there’s no sure way to succeed. You can be very talented, have money, be popular, have connections, or even have them all. But there’s still no guarantee (especially in the long term).
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely JING and Gallo Supper Club for food. And any clubs or parties that I’m playing!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dj Craze, Dj QBert, A-Trak
I’m definitely a risk taker, and I think it stems from not really having anything to lose. It’s been a good and bad thing though… I’ve had loses that hurt me to my soul. But I’ve also had big wins that gave me the greatest high I could ever imagine! And as for my personal life, I’ve had my struggles with it. I specifically remember choosing to pursue DJing full time right before my daughter was born (which is pretty risky imo). But at the same time, it very motivational! Failure wasn’t an option for me.
