We had the good fortune of connecting with Fahbia Ahmed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fahbia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I never imagined I’d become a small business owner. My path has always been guided by logic and practicality, which is why I pursued a degree and career in civil engineering. However, after moving to Denver, I found myself decorating for friends’ birthdays and celebrations, a passion rooted in my childhood. My grandma Joan, who always made special occasions memorable, and my grandparents, who started their own small business selling cross-country skis in retirement, both deeply inspired me.
As I began to take decorating more seriously and refined my skills, I was moved by the positive reactions and cherished memories I was creating for others. This led me to take the leap and start my own business, which has become a vibrant creative outlet alongside my 9-to-5 job.
Despite my success, I still grapple with imposter syndrome and question whether I truly have what it takes to be a small business owner and a creative force. I worry about how others might perceive me. But I’ve come to realize that if I’m passionate about what I do and it brings joy to people’s celebrations, it’s worth pursuing this dream.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is my unique blend of creativity and attention to detail, driven by a deep passion for making every event special. Inspired by the warmth and creativity of my Grandma Joan and the entrepreneurial spirit of my grandparents, I strive to infuse every project with a personal touch and a sense of wonder. I’m most proud of the genuine connections and joy my decorations bring to people’s celebrations.
What excites me most is the continuous evolution of my craft and the opportunity to create new and innovative designs that push the boundaries of traditional event decor. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned the importance of embracing vulnerability and trusting in my creative instincts.
I want the world to know that my brand is built on a foundation of passion, creativity, and personal connection. My story is one of following a dream that seemed unconventional but turned out to be deeply fulfilling. Through my art, I aim to celebrate life’s special moments with a touch of magic and a lot of heart. Every project is a testament to the belief that when we pursue what we love, we can make a meaningful impact and create joy for others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Before dinner walk around Larimer square and check out all the cool thrift shops like Garage Sale Vintage. One of my all time favorite places to take out of town guests to eat is at Necio. My go to for guests is the molcajete and pina colada. Linger is also a great place with the variety of types of dishes and atmosphere.
For late night attractions and great music to dance to is Disco Pig and Mocking Bird.
I think walking around Union Station and checking out the museum of contemporary art is great for the day.
After a day of site seeing the city I would take them to Elevated rooftop bar or The Woods to check out the sunset.
I would have to take them to Red Rocks for a hike or a show because the view is unmatched. As well as getting out of the city to Pikes peak, The white rabbit, and Troll of the Breckenridge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this to my grandma who taught me to love hosting, decorating, and bringing people together, Secondly to the person who inspired me to make the jump and pursue my passion, Alan. To my mom who listens to anxious calls before every event and tells me that everything will workout. Thank you.
