We had the good fortune of connecting with Faith Stone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faith, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I cofounded Eldorado Yoga Ashram and Shoshoni Yoga retreat to be of service .
One of my favorite ways is our kids summer Yoga Art camp. I think one of the most powerful impacts a person can have in the world is to work with children and be a positive support in their lives. We include daily practice on mindfulness, lessons in kindness and tolerance in our art focussed activities. Art is a powerful tool for opening kids to their creativity and confidence. We include meditative themes and time for exploration while having fun. We value kids as the future and support them through team building projects, teaching cooperation and making friends, working together while freeing their imagination. We make space for kids to be kids while painting, sculpting, sewing and playing games. We teach about caring for the environment and respecting nature. We often make art around endangered animals or respecting local wildlife.
It only takes one positive adult to make a huge positive impact on young people. That’s why I started Eldorado Yoga art camp, and taught as a high school art teacher at New Vista High School in Boulder. My high school art teacher helped me so much. I pay it forward with Kids camp.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am on a mission to revive and preserve Buddha woodblocks. I studied traditional Tibetan thangka painting for decades. Over time, I became aware that while painting Buddhas has spread worldwide, almost no one is still carving and printing Buddha Woodblocks. I would like to revivea beautiful art form that is fading away. I teach workshops, and hold the Lotus and Lion International contemporary Buddhist and Hindu exhibition at Shoshoni Yoga retreat in the summer.

Just like my work with kids, I host a venue for international artists working with Buddhist and Hindu artwork. It is my way to support this genre and the artists who make this work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would need to visit BMOCA the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, We would have lunch at the Boulder Dushanbe Tea house from our sister city in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. We would stroll Pearl St Mall visiting local shops including Old Tibet on Pearl Street and have a cup of coffee at the Trident Cafe. We would then visit the Boulder Bookstore which gives a unique feeling of Boulder’s spiritual side. In the afternoon we would go visit Shophsoni Yoga Retreat and in summertime see the Lotus and Lion International Buddhist and Hindu Art exhibition.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many friends and neighbors in the Boulder community that have helped us. We’ve worked with local school districts, especially New Vista High School. The communities of Eldorado Springs and Nederland have been extremely supportive. We have always felt so at home in the Boulder area. Being in such an inclusive, yoga and meditation friendly environment is wonderful. We’ve worked with the Park service and open Space folks to care for our local resources. We support the volunteer fire departments and have served as an evacuation center in times of flooding. We love our communtiy, and all the folks who live here.
