We had the good fortune of connecting with Febo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Febo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It all started when I decided to try tie dye. I saw some of the things that people were achieving at the highest level of the art form, and I became a little too curious about how it was possible. Going from absolutely no knowledge of tie dye, to realizing that I might actually have some natural talent only took 7 shirts, and ever since then I have been on a mission to see where the limits of that talent lie. It only made sense to start a business at that point because then I could start using the business to write off my dye and clothing purchases to make the initial investment as well as future purchases a smaller pill to swallow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Honestly, after two years of doing tie dye, I have still not completely settled on a style, and I still experiment a ton with what I think would look good, as well as what is even possible in the art form. I love to experiment, and I don’t usually make any pieces that don’t involve some sort of new changes to my process.

As for the difficulty, I have stopped thinking in terms of hard or easy when it comes to my art, and started just thinking about possibility. If I want to do something, then it doesn’t really matter how hard it is to do it, because I am pretty determined to create what I want to create even if it doesn’t initially seem possible. In this art form, there are more challenges than I even know about, and half the work of growing as a dye artist is simply figuring out what the challenges are. At that point it is simply a logistics thing: put the right material in the right place and you can make anybody happy.

If I have one message for the world, its that you need to believe in yourself, because you are the beginning and end of all you have in this world. If you believe in your ability to act and grow, you will surprise yourself with your own capacity for greatness.. We are all in a process of learning ourselves, as soon as you open to the possibility that you are more than you know, you will be able to reach for something truly unique and profound.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am actually kind of a hermit hahahaha, I don’t get around very much! Assuming money wasn’t an issue, I’d want to show them the food places local to my area, probably see some movies in theaters(always better with friends), and definitely see if there are any electronic music shows happening around that time. A lot of the time would probably be spent just sitting around and talking in my living room and listening to music. Any and all art would also be a super cool activity in my opinion. Weather permitting, camping, hiking, and swimming would all be great activities.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutouts to my family in mushtribe, you know who you are! I also want to shout out my fiancee, Amira, for always being there for me to show my newly taken out pieces to, and for the sheer variety and scale of support she has provided to me along this journey. I really would not be here without her.

More shoutouts to my friends and family in the dye community, DYE-A-RRHEA, D.A.B.(dabdyes), aprilspirals, Rachel with Spellboundtiedye, Mo Thredz, and Hi-Fi Tie Dye. Their encouragement and inspiration has been incredibly helpful to me, especially when I feel like I am running out of steam.

Lastly, I want to shout out the big names that inspired me to start on my journey, Austin from Dyes N Goodvibes, Josh Hudson(jhudson_tiedye), Carl from Dyeing Light Creations, Jake Roelofs, Mariah from Riahs Tie Dye, LSDDyes on YouTube, and last but not least, Mr. Tie Dye for teaching and providing information and instruction that would be incredibly difficult for a beginner to find online.

Forever Grateful <3
