We had the good fortune of connecting with Frankie Ellie Sklar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Frankie Ellie, how do you think about risk?
I believe in taking risks, even when they scare me—and they almost always do. My life has been shaped by bold leaps into the unknown, starting nearly 15 years ago when I left law school despite having no clear plan ahead. Instead, I followed a faint hit of intuition, what I call a ‘glimmer’—toward a life that felt more aligned.

Since then, I’ve taken many major risks: starting a therapy practice from scratch, relocating from the Bay Area to Denver on instinct alone, and most recently, stepping into a new name and identity that feel more like me. Each time, I had no guarantee things would work out, but I’ve learned that when I get quiet enough to listen to my intuition and take the leap, it always leads me somewhere meaningful.

Now, a decade into my work as a therapist and coach, I love helping others break free from prescribed paths, tune into their own “glimmers,” and find the courage to take the risks that lead them toward a more authentic life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a therapist and coach, helping clients navigate both their emotional world and the bold steps they want to take in life. In therapy, we explore the roots of who you are and heal from that space. In coaching, we focus on where you want to go and how to get there—whether that’s stepping into greater self-expression or building the courage to make heart-led leaps.

My approach is deep yet playful—sometimes raw and emotional, other times light with laughter present. I keep things informal and approachable because I know how vulnerable this work can be. My goal is for clients to feel comfortable, seen, and supported from day one.

Getting here wasn’t easy—I’ve taken many risks to build this practice, trusting my intuition even when the path was unclear. The biggest lesson? When we listen to ourselves and take the leap, we end up exactly where we need to be. That’s what I love helping others do, too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver is a lovely city to visit! We’d start the morning with fresh pastries and coffee at Wooden Spoon, then head to The River Yoga for a class with their amazing teachers.

In the afternoon, we’d take a relaxing stroll through the Denver Botanic Gardens, followed by some time at Cheesman Park to soak in the sun. For dinner, we’d walk along 32nd Street and decide between El Camino for delicious Mexican food or Blue Pan for their incredible deep-dish pizza. I’d love to then make our way to Red Rocks Amphitheater for some live music amongst the iconic red rocks.

It’d be the perfect mix of great food, movement, and time outdoors—exactly what makes Denver special!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m deeply grateful to the many generous people who have supported me along the way. First, to my dear friend and soul sister, Chrissy Brady-Smith—living with her during my law school years, I witnessed her deep self-work and transformation. Her growth inspired me to embark on my own path, ultimately leading me to a life dedicated to healing.

I’d also like to acknowledge Yvonne Guertin, my supervisor and mentor during grad school. Her guidance, care, and emotional support were instrumental in shaping me as a therapist. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.

And to the mentors in the writing world whose courage and wisdom have been a guiding light: Glennon Doyle, Elizabeth Gilbert, Alex Elle, Brené Brown, Nedra Glover Tawwab, and Yung Pueblo—thank you for sharing your journeys so that we may find inspiration in our own.
