We had the good fortune of connecting with Fritz Kadlec and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fritz, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Having been a Factory Sponsored Racer for many years choosing to Open my own Business in the Powersports Industry was definitely the right decision. I know the Industry and what customers want and need.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started from nothing in 2003. It was tough. We started just as a Repair/accessory shop and grew to be a Franchise Dealer. We built a strong cliental over the years being an honest, knowledgeable, well stocked Powersports Dealer. Gunnison Motorsports is a small business in a small mountain town. We are family owned and operated on the Retail side and have two technicians. We pride our self on having the best technician in the Valley if not in all of Colorado. We try be the place that customers want to come back to year after year. We have a very strong tourist following from all over the U.S. that come back every year.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we would plan a ride on some of the 750 miles of single track in the Gunnison Valley. Maybe a loop to Crested Butte, Pitkin, Sargents. The skies the limit here. Then an Adventure Bike Ride from Gunnison to Lake City, over Engineer Pass, Silverton, Cinnamon Pass back to Gunnison.
Next we would do a River Raft Float from Almont to McCabes Lane.
Play a round of Golf at Dos Rios.
Take a Hike up to Green Lake in Crested Butte.
Mountain Bike ride in Hartman Rocks or Crested Butte.
Boating on Blue Mesa
The outdoor activities are endless here.
**If they were visiting in Winter we would go Snowmobiling or Snowbiking up at Irwin or Cross Country Ski
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I worked for Chip Ganassi Racing for about 10 years after I stopped racing. Started out as Manager of his Hospitality Division at the races and then became his Corporate Pilot. It was my first “real” job post race career. It really helped me get my feet back on the ground after racing. We are still very good friends.
