We had the good fortune of connecting with Fulvio Montano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fulvio, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I started selling online my graphic design creations, the idea wasn’t to start a business, it was just a way to free my creativity doing things I like and, maybe, get some extra bucks for my holidays. As the pandemic and lockdown era started, and from one day to another I stopped working, I figured I had to focus on building an alternative besides my job as a video editor.
After doing a lot of online research I realized I could take advantage of the exponential growth of e-commerce driven by the fear of the pandemic, so I decided to give it a try.
I’m working on documentaries production since 2005, I’m a former cinema student and I’m mad about movies, so it was easy for me to come up with a name for my shop and a theme for my creations: Cinema + Madness= Cinemadness.
Now I’m constantly adding new designs and products to my two best-selling shops (Redbubble and Etsy) and I’m still learning and struggling on how to grow my sales more, but I’m confident that if you take a look at my creation you’ll agree with me that I’m on the right path 😉
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m not an artist, I’m a creative and my mind has always been full of ideas. I’d like to think of my works as a series of moments when my stream of consciousness is frozen in time. I’m not following trends or breaking news, I’m just shaping my passion for cinema and storytelling, that’s why my creations are unique. Graphic design wasn’t my profession, just something I occasionally did working in video production, so I had to learn better the software I was going to use and also the way to use them, in order to achieve my goals as a creator, The next step was to master the universe of online business and e-commerce platforms. It wasn’t simple and still isn’t, and it take a lot of hard work and commitment.
Today I’m confident that all these efforts are reflected in my creations and that customers can appreciate this by taking a little piece of my mind with them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, the city tour would start from the city center with a long walk under the historical arcades of my hometown, from the National Theatre and the wonderful garden near it to the paved square in front of the biggest museum of the city where we would stop to taste the best espresso in town, sitting outside the art nouveau style cafè facing the museum. Then we would continue to walk along the commercial road to the ancient docks along the river. For lunch, we would stop in a family-run pizzeria to taste an original Italian pizza and we’ll have dinner in a small restaurant in the countryside just outside the city, only based on local products and tradition. We would end the evening in a local brewery, celebrating with some homemade IPA and/or APA.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of I all, I want to thank my life partner for supporting me with the right amount of enthusiasm and criticism, also helping me to stay on schedule with all the tasks that running an online shop request. Then I’d like to thank my 12 years son for his genuine passion for movies who is always a source for new ideas. Last but not least, thanks to all the people who share their experience and advice on the web, allowing me to improve my business skills, mostly for free.
