We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriel Creek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriel, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The Ultimate Comedy Fighters got started when several years ago I was asked by my church to do a comedy show to raise support for sending a group to help rebuild in Haiti after a devastating earthquake. The church’s proposal was, “Hey Gabe, you’re funny. Want to do a comedy show for us?” Realizing that I was no comedian, but not wanting to turn down the opportunity, I enrolled myself in some local improv classes to prepare. Using those classes, I assembled my first improv team. I was basically taking a class, then bringing those lessons to my team the next day during rehearsal. That first show went well, and our love of using improv to support others was born.

Fast forward many years, 20+ team members, and dozens of shows later: We’re now a 501c3 nonprofit organization of our own, whose sole purpose is to help those who help others. Turning laughter into tangible support for those on the frontlines of making a difference is why we exist. We’re uniquely positioned to do so at no cost to the groups we’re supporting, while providing them with a fun night out, just to give them a little rest.

We’ve had the privilege of partnering with some truly great organizations, like Walk With Me, Robbie’s Hope, Royal Family Kids, and Hope House Colorado, just to name a few. We are blessed to have a spotlight that we can use to shine on others. If you’re reading this, and you know of an organization doing great work, please fill out the form on our website. We want to meet them and figure out how we can help!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Ultimate Comedy Fighters is truly where helping those in need is a laughing matter. Our show format is a crazy marriage of improv comedy and athletics. Two teams of improvisors go head to head in a battle to earn laughs from the audience, complete with a referee to enforce the rules and call fouls. (Such as the “Below the Belt” foul for dirty jokes in our family friendly show) The entire show is made up on the spot using suggestions from the audience. Every show that we do is simultaneously the opening and closing night, because the next one will be completely different.

We never put on a performance unless there’s an amazing group to lift up. We’re very intentional about the groups we support. Especially as we’re going into the 2024 election cycle, the UCF does nothing but highlight charities and organizations that unite the community. We stand as a reminder that there are organizations out there that are doing great, important work for whom we can set aside our differences, and rally around. It’s important to us that our audiences are filled with red/blue voters, rich/poor people, millennials/boomers, etc. Elsewhere, these are people who can be at each other’s throats. But in our audience, they’re just people united in supporting a great cause, and laughing with each other.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Storyline Church in Arvada has been wonderful to us. They’ve donated use of their facilities that are already set up to host large gatherings, stages, sound equipment, etc. It’s with their help that we’ve been able to give every dollar of every ticket sold directly to the charity that we are supporting.
