We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Yeo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, what makes you happy? Why?
Life is busy and filled with responsibilities and obligations, and then there are moments of calm and peace. Happiness, to me, is about perspective. It’s the little moments in the hustle and bustle, like the laughter of my children or the bounce of my springer spaniel. Gratitude for these moments is what makes me happy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My father, our family photographer, inspired my journey into the photographer I am today. However, when I became a mother, I pursued photography with a passion as I documented the everyday moments of my children’s lives. As they’ve grown and due to my connection to the Canadian Rocky Mountains and my enjoyment of camping and hiking, my camera naturally progressed to capturing the vast beauty in these mountain ranges. Teaching other photographers has been a part of my many years of interaction with the photography community. I began teaching other Moms how to take better images of their children and then moved into teaching landscape photographers once my focus moved toward that genre.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I would breathe, eat, and sleep all things photography. We’d head into the Rockies and spend time immersered in nature hiking and capturing the beautiful scenes with our cameras.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think that everyone you meet plays a role in who you become, and it’s about recognizing those interactions for what they are and growing and learning from those experiences. Of course, family and friends have definitely been my biggest source of support for where I am at in my life.
