We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Lefcourt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Greg, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
That “the customer is always right.” There are many approaches to giving top notch hospitality and service while still providing education and learning opportunities for those who may need more information on particular topics (such as specialty coffee) when visiting our cafe. There is an ever-present goal to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction without turning off customers with arrogance, attitude, or too much information.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been making coffee as a barista for over 20 years in Boulder. I am so proud and excited to have opened my very own business with my wife, Nafisa Ramos, and can truly call it a “Mom+Pop Shop.” What sets me apart from other coffee industry professionals is my time and experience serving coffee in our community as well as the skills attained as a barista competitor and judge on both the local and national stages. I bring extensive knowledge of the industry and craft as a barista to the operation at Beleza and only serve coffee and products that are tried and true as excellent. Getting to where I am today in my profession was through hard work, attention to details, dedication, overcoming challenges, and striving constantly for success and learning as much as possible about coffee and the craft of coffee presentation, never thinking I know it all, I continue to learn and educate those around me. The world should know I (we) care about our hospitality and offerings at Beleza and strive to connect our community through coffee as the vehicle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nice, welcome to Boulder (CO), and assuming no pandemic, let’s explore! Boulder Restaurants and Cafes, so many great options with rooftop decks, great menus, local produce and meats. The Boulder Farmer’s Market, Boulder Creek Path, skiing at Eldora, climbing in Boulder Canyon, any live music at the Boulder Theater, the Fox, the Mission Ballroom, RED ROCKS! Exploring Rocky Mtn National Park, backpacking in the Maroon Bells or Never Summers, Strawberry Park Hot Springs in Steamboatt, hikes on the Flatirons, disc golf at many different front range courses, the Denver Botanic Gardens, the Denver food/drink scene, tubing the Poudre River in Ft. Collins, the Thursday night Crusier Bike ride in Boulder, maybe a pro sports game at the Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, Avalanche, or Rapids, visit Bishop Castle, the new Meow Wolf (when it opens in Denver), any of the mountain town festivals up in Vail or Breckenridge. SOOOOOOOO much to do here all year-round!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the folks who drink and appreciate the craft of specialty coffee as greater than just a commodity. And all the coffee professionals across the globe working hard during this pandemic to ensure the planet still gets the coffee it needs to keep spinning!
