Meet Gregg Hoffman | Photographer and Fly Fisher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gregg Hoffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gregg, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The simple answer is pure enjoyment. I have been making photographs my entire life, and earned a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art Photography from Colorado State University. I also have a bit of a fly fishing addiction. So making Alpine Fish Photos has been a fun way to combine my interests. Throughout my photography training and career, my goal has been making the ultra sharp focused image. Alpine Fish Photos is a completely different style of creativity. This work is fast, loose and taken with a point and shoot camera, all while making sure that my subject swims away healthy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Alpine Fish Photos is a new project that I start this year. My photography style has to be quick:
1. Catch the fish
2. Photograph without looking though the lens
3. Release it alive.
This leads to incredible surprises when I download the images.
I print everything on elegant metal composite material.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the high mountains of Colorado near Alma. So all of our activities will be outdoors. Depending on the time of year, it could include fly fishing, four wheeling, or skiing. But no matter what season, walking our dogs happens every day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My artist friend Truman Esmond (CoverStory.Art), encouraged me to start Alpine Fish Photos. He knew that I had over 15 years of images in this style, that I was keeping to myself. Truman pushed me to produce my art. I cannot thank him enough.
