We had the good fortune of connecting with Hanna Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hanna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In my life thus far every ‘risk’ I have taken it has led me to some unexpected and beautiful experiences. I believe that fear can stop us from taking risk however facing that fear and jumping in head first or even gradually can really lead to something special and can even change your life. I moved from a very small town in Alaska across the country for college when I was 18 years old which was most definitely a risk however it has led me to where I am now! This including meeting some of my closest friends, meeting my husband, igniting the desire to move to Denver after graduation, starting more than one career and so on!
I decided to start my charcuterie business for many reasons but I made the decision to take a chance on myself and not let the fear of not succeeding stop me. I do not come from a business background- my background is in the medical field so this was also a risk for me by jumping into becoming a business owner. However I think if you believe in yourself, you put in the work required, really set your mind to it beautiful things can happen. You never know unless you try and risk taking a chance on yourself!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I founded Sunrise Charcuterie because it involves two of my favorite things – food and art! I love how charcuterie boards and grazing tables incorporate a unique food art in each spread. I am all about the little details in each spread like the setup, the garnishes and the visually pleasing finishing touches for whatever gathering/event it will be at. I also love how each food- especially meats/cheeses can be designed in so many different ways to help make each board/table unique. My goal for every board/table is when someone says that it is to pretty to eat, that is like music to me ears! My slogan is ‘Art and food in one’ and that is what I strive to do in every board/table no matter how big or small it is.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I think the Denver-Metro area is such a wonderful and vibrant city. After we had our two young children we have really got to know more of the ‘family friendly’ spots in the city which has been fun. We love to go to parks/splash-pads in the summer and take advantage of the beautiful bike paths in the area by going on walks/bike rides all year long. Some of the local parks we love are Centennial Central park, Fox Hill park, Sunrise park and Discovery park. Some other local places we love for fun and for food that are kid friendly would be Play Street Gym, Stapleton Marketplace, Brewability, local Rodeos, local farmers markets, Rocket Ice Cream, Lowry Beer Garden and many more! We also love all of the National parks Colorado has to offer for hikes/walks and enjoying the beautiful Colorado weather.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Irving has always been my biggest supporter. He is also the best husband and father to our two young children. He encourages me and believes in me through every life transition. He is a Realtor here in Denver going on 6 years so he knows what it is like to take a risk and to believe in yourself no matter what. He is one of the most hardworking, ambitious and dedicated people I know and I am very thankful for him.
