We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, what makes you happy? Why?
In a professional sense, the joy I create in owning my business is the relationships I build with my clients. I started Evara Events with one thing in mind: Bringing matters of the heart to life by expert hands. Don’t get me wrong, it’s breathtaking to craft Gatsby-worthy events, but there is no greater joy than starting with an inquiry form and [months later] finishing that client’s event having gotten to know them on a person level, with a genuine love and care for them as humans.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

The world of events is fast pace and ever evolving. My company, Evara Events, is a Denver-based premier event planning company, specializing in full-service, partial planning, and day-of coordination. We service weddings, corporate and nonprofit industries, and other special occasions.

When building Evara’s business plan, one of the first things I established were company values: Joy, Community, Connection, Client-Obsessed Service, Inclusion. I believe when businesses approach their work with a “true-north” in mind, we are able to offer a different level of care and commitment to our clients that’s evident in our end product and level of service.

One of the biggest honors of my career has been receiving feedback like: “My granddaughter had the wedding of her dreams in large part due to Hannah! I’m upright and sucking air thanks to her!”, “I came to every meeting knowing she had everything covered.”, “Hannah definitely ‘heard my heart’ and transformed our day…” from clients.

Something I’m really proud of in our industry is our emphasis on collaboration and lifting each other up. Experienced professionals don’t gate-keep information or strategies from those who are newer in the game. You don’t have that same sense of competition or “me vs. you” as you see in other industries. Don’t get me wrong, everyone wants to secure clients and expand their businesses, but you just don’t see that same cut-throat culture in the Denver area. I think that’s what makes the Denver market so strong – there is a lot of knowledge being shared and strengthened.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am on the pursuit for the best chai tea latte in Denver. My friends know that whatever is on the itinerary, a little coffee shop break needs to be on the list. A few of my favorite spots: River and Roads Coffee, Bardo Coffee House (The Grinch is my favorite drink here though), Copper Door Coffee, or Lekker Coffee & Watering Hole.

If we aren’t catching a little caffeine buzz, I love to bring folks to our farmers markets [during the summer]. I love being able to get fresh produce, Colorado honey, and support other small businesses.

If we are going to eat a few of my top picks are Flower Child, Culinary Dropout, Red Ginger, or Syrup!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Unbeknownst to me, my career in event planning started during a business exploration presentation my freshman year of college. I remember this fiery woman coming into the lecture hall and hops up onto the desk at the front of the room. Heavily pregnant and straight to the point, she tells us her name is Tonja, she owns her own event planning business (R&R Events and Design), and not everyone is cut out for this job. Talk about instant intrigue!

As she tells us more about her business, the events she coordinates, and the type of commitment it takes to be successful in this industry (you work while everyone else plays), I remember a growing sense of excitement building. She said outgoing (check), organized (check), mad-stamina (check), and the ability to problem solve on the fly (check). Tonja was listing some of my greatest strengths AND she was crafting gorgeous celebrations? I need to know more.

The second class let out I made my way up to Tonja and asked for her card, her number, anything she’d be willing to give me to help me stay in touch. She did me one better – there was a Toast of Cheer event next weekend where R&R was designing a holiday table. Would I like to come see what it’s about? Whatever plans that college freshman had the next weekend, they were canceled.

Shortly after, I was a wedding season intern for R&R Events and Design. Supporting with fundraising galas, getting to shadow client meetings, and volunteering my event knowledge to The Alzheimer’s Association in Grand Junction during their “The Longest Day” event.

Throughout my years with R&R, I learned so much from Tonja. She was willing to share practical knowledge, allow me to learn first-hand, different aspects of planning and running a business, and also get really vulnerable about the work; the blood, sweat, and tears that went into being a part of someone’s biggest day. I’m so thankful for Tonja taking a chance on me.
