Meet Hannah Schoeninger | Law Firm Co-Owner | Licensed Legal Paraprofessional

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Schoeninger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was always a dream of mine, and once I became licensed to practice family law it was became a streamlined path for me to be able to open my own business. My license was created to bridge the gap in access to justice for pro se litigants in domestic court matters and opening and co-owning a law firm became an achievable dream that wouldn’t have been available to me prior to my license.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I obtained my associated in Paralegal studies in 2018, and finished my undergrad degree at the University of Colorado Denver in 2021. I had been working in family law since 2017, and was able to be a part of the first cohort of paralegals to get our LLP license. Licensed Legal Paraprofessional is a new legal license to practice specific areas of family law. After taking our “mini-bar” exam and becoming licensed in June 2024, I ultimately opened my own law firm in November of 2024. The LLP license allows us to practice in the areas of Divorce, Invalidity of Marriage, Spousal Support
, Paternity
, Child support
, Custody
Modifications of Orders
, Protection Orders
, Name Changes
, Gender Designations
, and Remedial Contempt.
I am hopeful our license creates opportunity for underserved and pro se litigants to receive legal services they would otherwise not have access to. I am grateful for the opportunity to obtain my license and look forward to how I create a positive impact in our community by offering more affordable services.
In any new venture, especially that of a brand new legal license, there is always hardship, resistance, and adversity, but with anything else that has come my way through life, I was able to navigate around it and successfully achieve the goals I set. The biggest lesson I have learned is to always maintain faith in yourself. As Audre Lord says, “. . . You must first be willing to believe that you have it.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a big “foodie”, there are some great local places. As someone who is gluten free, I am always finding new places to try. I would absolutely take them to Acova in Denver. It is a beautiful atmosphere with a plant curtain and almost completely gluten free menu. They have a full service bar and located a cute Denver strip. The next place I would want to bring them closer to home in Yonsei Sushi, located in a Thornton shopping Center, they are hands down my favorite sushi place. They have a gluten-free friendly menu, and are happy to accommodate any allergy needs. A great kid friendly park with a beautiful view of Denver and the mountains is Homestead Hills Park in Thornton. Another fun experience is Meow Wolf, as well as Bubble Planet. both are great for all ages.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Co-owning a law firm is in great thanks to my business partner and Mentor Cierra Garso. She is a licensed attorney who was and continues to be an epic support to me obtaining my LLP license. I also love Community College of Denver for offering an educational path in paralegal studies where I received my associates degree, especially the chair of the department Kerry James for continuing to encourage me to push through adversity.
