We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Kemp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At the time I started my business I was a stay at home mom for the first time ever with four kids. I wanted to do something that could make a difference in other people’s lives and share my knowledge.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Of all the services that I offer at Gemini Birth Services, childbirth classes has become my personal favorite! I still love being able to support new parents during the labor process and during the postpartum period. However, the 6-week private classes I offer allow me to get to know the expecting couple on a more personal level. We usually develop a bond that lasts well beyond the ending of the class series. I am sometimes asked to attend their birth, but most often they share their birth announcements, stories, and photos with me. Gemini Birth Services is all me and it is the sign of support. It has taken a lot of time away from my family, but they have been completely understanding of me pursuing my passion. In turn, I have learned to not take on too many clients at one time. This has made me better at being able to provide individualized support to my clients and family alike.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have only been in Colorado for a little over a year and moved here not knowing anyone. My first stop every time I have family and friends visit is to go see the sunrise at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO. There is nothing like those beautiful views, completely breathtaking. Afterwards, we drive farther south to Colorado Springs for a stop at Amy’s Donuts on our way to Garden of the Gods. During the summer we may go to the renaissance faire in Larkspur. Our local Longmont favorites include Aunt Alice’s for breakfast, Laguna Mexican Restaurant, Blackjack’s Pizza, Teriyaki Madness, and Twisted Roots Frozen Yogurt. We usually walk part of the St. Vrain Greenway also.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Over the last 10 years of running this business many people have had an influence on me and the way I conduct my business. The greatest of those being my own children. I run my business with lack of judgement and nothing short of my strongest support for each of my clients. The same as I would want for my children.
