Meet Heather Sackrison | Podcast Manager and Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Sackrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I needed to make money… That is honestly the reason I got into the entrepreneurial life. In 2020, it became increasingly apparent that my daughter would need private school and therapy. She had been diagnosed autistic, and while I had planned to homeschool, I wasn’t able to give her the help that she needed by myself. Therapy and private school are expensive! I needed to bring in some extra cash if we were going to be able to give her the education that she needed.
I still wanted to be able to work from home and be around for my kids’ childhood, so I knew I couldn’t take a normal 9-5 job. Plus, I was a stay-at-home mom that hadn’t worked in over 5 years… I needed to figure this out on my own.
I found an online course for Virtual Assistants, bought it with the COVID stimulus package, and you know what I found? I could actually make this into a viable business and not just a way to make money on the side. While building the virtual assistant business, I started to listen to podcasts. Being a startup business owner takes it’s toll, and listening to those podcasts helped me feel like I was not alone. And I wanted to make that happen for other people. I started my own podcast, Mamas at Work, that tells the stories of mom entrepreneurs, and I manage several other podcasts that are about community and information.
Two years later, my kids are in public school and the extra money is not as much of an issue. But I found a purpose. When I was younger, I wanted to be a stay-at-home-homeschooling mom; and now I absolutely love owning my own business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me apart is my ability to feel so deeply. Sometimes it can feel like a setback, but in reality it’s a superpower. I can talk to people and set them at ease instantly. I can read a situation and diffuse or excite depending on what is needed. I am proud of the fact that my business is steady and thriving and built all on my own. I had been a follower most of my life, and I am finally realizing that I am a leader, even if it doesn’t look the same as other leaders.
I want the world to know that if I can pull myself out of the rut of not knowing what I want to do and build a life that I want, they can too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow, I know exactly what I would do! I would take them shopping in Denver Union Station. Such a beautiful place with so many fun shops and place to people-watch.
I would take them to dinner at Barcelona. The best tapas I have ever had, and the drinks are incredible!
I would take them to see the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit and spend hours drinking in the beauty.
We would see a Rockies Game and go to the Rooftop for some great views. Or an Avalanche game at the Ball Arena.
We would go to the Mercury Cafe for some swing dancing lessons.
I would take them to see a play at the Buell or a concert at Red Rocks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Gary Barnes. While I was still building my Virtual Assistant business, I attended his Breakthrough Business Mastery Bootcamp in January of 2021. It was there that I found a community of people who really nurtured me and built me up until I started to believe in myself. Gary has fostered that group for a long time, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.
