We had the good fortune of connecting with Helena Bednarski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Helena, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is the reason I am where I am today. Especially in my industry, you are already taking a risk just by dedicating yourself
to sitting down, passing that exam, and then not knowing where everything could go from there. Getting into the mortgage industry right now is undeniably risky, with market volatility and intense competition. But I’m a strong believer in that risk is the lifeblood of success. It’s what drives innovation and growth. It’s what truly propels you forward knowing that you’ve sacrificed a lot to get where you are now. I’m choosing to position myself to learn, fail, adapt, and ultimately, succeed. We all can agree, life isn’t easy. You have to take a lot of risks to get what you want. But I’m here, and I’m ready to take on whatever comes to me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My path to getting into the industry hasn’t been easy. It took countless hours of studying, failing and then failing some more. I would be lying if I said that I didn’t want to quit at times. But failure taught me how to get back up and face things even stronger. Resilience comes from the experience of failure and embarrassment. My word of advice to everyone is be comfortable with discomfort.
As a 21 year old woman, I am still learning the world. This journey I’m on is more than just a career. I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and the power of a strong team. These lessons have shaped me not just professionally, but personally.
My story is one of dedication and community. My career is more than a job; it’s a mission to make a positive impact. I’m here to give back to the communities that I, myself, am a part of. I am incredibly proud of myself and my colleagues for our dedication to success. The journey has just started, and with our collective effort, we’ll create positive change that reverberates throughout our community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a good question… I had to put some thought into this! If my best friend were visiting Denver, I’d plan a memorable week. We’d start with a day at Chatfield Reservoir- one of my favorite spots near the city. The next day, we’d visit the Denver Art Museum and explore RiNo for great food, drinks, and street art. We’d spend a day hiking at Echo Lake and White Ranch, enjoying the stunning views. Back in the city, we’d check out the area around the historic Union Station, barhop, and walk around the city. And you can’t visit Denver without catching a concert at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater—I’d recommend the Pink Floyd cover band Brit Floyd for an unforgettable experience. To wind down, we’d explore Denver’s hidden gems, from cozy coffee shops to unique boutiques. Even as a local, I’m always finding new spots to share!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can’t speak about my success without expressing my heartfelt thanks to Keystone Mortgage Academy, Janine Kempfer, Ken Jones, and my incredible classmates/coworkers – my second family. Without their unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement, I would not be standing where I am today in this industry.
Keystone Mortgage Academy has provided me with the knowledge and tools essential for success. Janine and Ken, your mentorship has been invaluable, pushing me to reach new heights and inspiring me to believe in the potential that you see in me that I could not see myself. To my classmates and coworkers, you are more than colleagues; you are my family. This is a tough industry to thrive in, and without the wonderful people around me, I would have quit a long time ago.
