We had the good fortune of connecting with hellocentral and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi hellocentral, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We have all been life-long friends, growing up in New York together. We went separate ways for college then reconnected in Denver, rented out a big house together and hellocentral was quickly born. It was an easy decision, as we all grew up playing music together under other projects and always wanted to keep our creative outlet and dreams alive.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When we first started hellocentral in 2017, we self-recorded our first EP in our basement and were playing DIY shows at houses and other random spots. As we slowly gained traction, studios and venues started reaching out to have us record/perform under more legitimate circumstances. We’ve come quite a long way from our humble beginnings, and our recordings and current quality of live shows is evidence of that.
We’ve maintained our passion for music from when we were kids playing in our basements/garages, and we feel grateful to be able to continue to pursue that passion. We have a rare bond of four life-long friends that is so difficult to find in the music scene, and we believe it sets us apart in our ability to collaborate and combine ideas with ease.
We want the world to know that we make music that we love and want to hear, and hope that everyone can have the same cathartic experience from listening to our art that we have creating it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Besides the mountains, in Denver we always bring people to Ratio Beerworks, Larimer Lounge, Sushi Sasa, City O City, Occidental, Wax Trax, and we always seek out our favorite fish taco truck, La Baja Fish Tacos!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people in the Denver music community that have helped us in our journey! We’d like to shout out Alba Molina-Nogal from Youth on Record, Aimee Giese from Westword, Hailey Steiner from RiNo Showcase, our producer Taylor Hahn from Hahn Audio, and of course all of our fans who continue to come out to shows and support us!
