Meet Hilary Nicolls | Mom, Runner & CPA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hilary Nicolls and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hilary, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started Parent Run Club after having my daughter, Tatum. As a former collegiate runner, being active is a huge part of my identity. I knew becoming a mom would be a life change, but I didn’t want to give up my love for running, being outdoors, and connecting with other athletes.
I looked for gyms and fitness classes with childcare but I couldn’t find what I was after. My husband and I would trade off working out and watching our daughter, but I wanted something better. I started Parent Run Club to solve that simple problem. I wanted to go on a run with friends while my daughter played.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the Controller at Delta-v Capital, a growth equity firm focused on investing in technology. I started my career as a CPA at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, but I think my career really started as an athlete. I ran track and cross country at the University of Oklahoma and Virginia Tech. As a Division 1 athlete, I was thrown into a fast paced and high performing world. I loved the constant challenges and the ability to be both a student and a runner. More importantly, I loved having teammates. I continue to try to surround myself with the best people. Both at work and through Parent Run Club, I have met the most down to earth and impressive people that keep me motivated!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh I hope I can live out this agenda soon! I live in Golden which has so many fun spots. We’d probably go to the Golden Diner and Bonfire Burritos for breakfast. We also love the Italian Bakery Dolce Sicilia in Wheat Ridge. The Golden Mill is also a great place to grab a bite. I’d hope to spend a lot of time hiking or running. South Table is out our back door so we’d definitely go on a run or hike there. I think Clear Creek and Golden Gate Canyon are also beautiful spots. If we go for a bike ride, then we need to ride up Lookout Mountain. We’d also probably take my kids to Maple Grove Park, our neighborhood favorite. If we are going on a road trip, we’d head to Salida. We love spending our weekends there!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m grateful to have had the support of so many parents and business owners that have helped build Parent Run Club into the amazing community it is. Alysha Schuring from Alyth Active in Golden was the first business owner to host our group and offer a space for childcare. There have been so many other local businesses that have followed her lead including Runners Roost, Unite Fitness, Evolution PT, and Venture Speech that continue to host our club and support the parents in our community. Last but not least, my husband has supported me from the start and is my most reliable run leader!
