We had the good fortune of connecting with Hogan Flix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hogan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think of risks I think of all of the big risks I’ve taken and not taken. Even if the risky decision turns into a failure it still becomes a lesson, so why ever choose the conservative decision if the outcome of taking a risk will move you further in life, especially if you succeed. I want to know at the end of my life I gave it everything I had and not regretting the risks I wish I took. By living like this my fear of failure is much lower knowing that I could be one risk away from being where I want to be. This helped me greatly in life and photography by getting me into risky places for the right shot, and also getting me to the right place in life to give me the opportunity to take the best shots.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of my main missions whenever taking pictures or videos is to think outside the box and try something more challenging that others wouldn’t dare to try. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come using the same equipment and proving the fact that the most expensive camera won’t determine great results but it is up to the eyes behind the camera that make the difference. Along my journey I’ve realized that the more you practice the better you get and the more you learn. Even if I didn’t have a project to work on or a client or model to work with I’d still go out of my way to take a walk and photograph whatever I see or take some old footage and edit something together. Without practice and taking pointless pictures and videos I wouldn’t have the mindset I do today when working on important projects. I know now what shots I’m looking for and can take the ideas in my head and make them come to life. Anything is possible, it is solely up to brain power, determination, and will power to make things happen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
After just moving to Colorado a month ago I’ve only got a few favorite places and that includes Vail village and the mountain it’s self I would definitely take a friend to see some of the best views the world has to offer and do some snowboarding. After ripping the mountain I’d go get a slice from Pazzo’s and then head down the street to check out some art galleries to catch some inspiration and motivation. Whoever I’m with you would definitely get their own personal photoshoot in any of the scenic areas around the village like the gore creek, covered bridge, or East Gore Creek drive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I was just reaching my teenage years my Father bought a camera, and I would always use it and come back to him with some cool pictures. He started to print them and show them to his friends and they would all compliment them so I started to try harder and realized I had the eye for it. I got my first dslr at 16 and taught myself how to use it with never taking any photography classes before it was hard at the beginning but I persevered and saved up for new lenses and kept trying to get my name out there. Not only do I attribute my success to my Father I give myself a lot of credit for taking the camera and running with it making my dreams come true.
