We had the good fortune of connecting with Hon. Ken Wise and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hon. Ken, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have loved Texas history my whole life. I wanted to give something back to the history community and there wasn’t a Texas history podcast. Since I was already an active public speaker I thought I’d give it a try. It has become way bigger and more popular than I could have possibly imagined.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Texas Judge, I learned first hand how important our past is to our present. Human nature remains unchanged through history. Learning about the past, and our memories of the past, can have a tremendous effect on the ability to make quality decisions in the present. I want the Wise About Texas podcast to provide an opportunity for everyone to have access to our past in a way that inspires, educates, and even entertains.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they were visiting me during a Texas summer, I’d take them to Colorado! My hometown of Houston, Texas has one of the best food scenes in the USA. You can tour the world on a plate. I’d include a Houston Astros game, some golf and probably a trip to the beach. Of course, Texas independence was won at San Jacinto which is in the Houston area and we have some great historic sites from early Texas.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Historians James Haley, Dr. H.W. Brands, and Dr. Stephen Hardin deserve a lot of credit for inspiring my understanding that good history is not only well researched, but well told.
