We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Kleinman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ian, what are you inspired by?
I get inspired by looking at other artistic works from different industries. I try to implement some of those artistic works into our business operations. For example, after seeing a musical in which the performers were wearing hands-free drums, we created a hands-free nitro mobile station where we can present some of our more popular treats and textures while on the move through a crowd. We just debuted the nitro mobile station at a fundraiser for National Jewish Health, sponsored by Mercedes Benz & Neiman Marcus.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I pride myself in being a complete chef, which means that I have worked in many different positions in the industry. I never thought I would be a bartender or an owner, or a purchasing agent but you have to learn different skills to learn a business. I am proud that we have in been in business for 15 years and that we keep finding a way to be relevant and new.
We have always had the philosophy that we have to be excellent at each event, every detail has to be perfect. Every event that we do is unique and different, which gives us the ability to create and have fun.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I was born and raised in Breckenridge, Colorado so I would take them out of Denver to enjoy the unique atmosphere. The town and the county have a lot of unique activities and restaurants to visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was first inspired by the restaurant, El Bulli, run by chef Ferran Adrià. While I never got to travel to Spain to visit the restaurant, I was greatly influenced by his books. I also was inspired by my grandfather who was a builder and worked on and created his own tools to accomplish jobs. He loved to tinker.
