We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabella Baudo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabella, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Focusing on promoting myself as an independent business owner! I chose to take a risk and focus primarily on making my own business so that I would be able to stay home with my son as much as possible. My son, Jace, was born in June of 2020 and when my 3 months of maternity leave came to an end, I dreaded going back to work full time in an office. I have been so lucky to be able to focus on building my business as a successful makeup artist and also be able to stay home and watch my son grow. I love that I have been able to raise and take care of him on my own.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out as someone, like many other people, with a passion for makeup artistry and loved playing with makeup. It was my favorite hobby and I never in a million years thought that I could ever make a career out of it. Fast forward a few years and I moved to Denver, CO and applied for a job as a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics. Again, never in a million years did I think I would get hired. I had been applying for jobs with MAC for years and was never even called for an interview. Working at the MAC counter in Nordstrom at the mall was the push I needed to build the confidence in myself to be able to be where I am today. I met so many amazing artists and constantly learned new techniques and tips on how to improve myself as a makeup artist. From there, I started getting inquiries to do makeup for weddings. I was overwhelmed at first because I felt like the bride had a lot of faith in me to do such an important job for one of the most special days of their lives. It’s so much more than just looking beautiful the day of their wedding. She is going to look back at the photos of that day for the rest of her life and remember how amazing she felt and looked. I quickly fell in love with wedding and bridal makeup. I love connecting with the bride and hearing all the stories of how her and her bridesmaids met. The way their face just lights up and glows when they see their makeup is priceless and still makes me emotional every time. My career started with just a teenage girl that liked playing with makeup and has turned into so much more. I am so passionate about my job and I love that I was able to turn my dreams into a reality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends come visit from Charlotte, NC, I have a few places that I love to bring them! I try to fit in a little bit of city time in downtown Denver with outdoorsy, adventurous experiences as well. I like taking the light rail to downtown to go bar/restaurant hopping in the city. Forest Room 5 is one of the coolest bars I’ve been to in Denver but there are an endless amount of unique bars and restaurants to stop by. I love going to Garden of the Gods. It’s only about an hour drive from my house in Parker so it’s a fun day trip. Downtown Boulder is another fun day trip as well. I’m a huge hot tea drinker and going on a tour of Celestial Seasonings is always a must! Even if we just stop by the gift shop, it’s definitely on the list of places to go when we’re headed to Boulder.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my family! My mom, dad and two sisters are a huge part of why I have been able to become so successful. Whether it’s watching my son while I’m gone for 8+ hours a day working on a wedding or sharing my posts on social media, they have always been so supportive. They have gotten up before the crack of dawn to take care of my son while I leave to do makeup all day. I am so appreciative of how helpful and supportive they have been. Even the little things like keeping my son happy for an extra 5 minutes while I finish sending out invoices or sharing a post on Instagram make such a huge impact on how I can continue to grow and keep up with my business. I know for a fact that without their help, I would not be where I am today.
