We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Curran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was a freshman in high school, I picked up a camera and started filming sports. I was inspired by a former sports videographer from the school I was planning to attend who then recommended that I join the digital media class and provided me with a camera. As my audience grew, I realized that I needed to focus on quality over quantity and not fall into the trap of creating short-form content that is so common on social media. I made sure that I loved each photo or video I posted on my page before ever publishing it because if you love what you create, there is no better job. This is when I found my workflow and my art, which helped me connect with several businesses and companies to earn new audiences and start making an income from my work.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a creative person my whole life, I was bound to find “my outlet” at some point. What sets me apart from others is how much I care and how willing I am to take the extra step. If something interests me, I will give it my all and work as hard as I can. I want to watch a video back or take a look at a photo after editing it and say, “I love it!” because, as I said, if you love what you are doing—and in my case, love what you create—nothing else matters. I am most proud of the connections I’ve made and finding my passion at a young age. Working for Overtime Sports a handful of times, filming some of the best high school athletes in the world, has been the coolest thing I’ve done and the job I enjoy the most. Filming guys like Rob Dillingham, Baye Fall, and Dylan Harper has truly been an amazing experience and something I wouldn’t give up for the world.
Getting to where I am today has not been easy. I’ve faced tons of adversity and creative roadblocks over the last four years, from losing 30+ hours of footage on a corrupted SD card and having to pay $800 to restore it to chipping my tooth after falling onto one of my tripods. I think I’ve been through the wringer. But it all made me a better creator and person and only taught me valuable lessons. All of these hardships and struggles have helped me become the best creator I can be and taught me so many things, not only in film but also in business and learning how to market myself as a creator and as a company.
I want the world to know that I have found what I love to do and I will continue to do it until I fall out of love with it. As far as my brand goes, I would say, speaking for most younger creators, don’t overlook age and followers. I know countless creators like me who are below 18 years old and have so much potential, and I think people pass up younger people for older people with more followers and more experience. So, my message is to support the younger generation and don’t base everything on age and how many followers someone has, but base your opinions on heart, experience, and quality. On top of that, I think Colorado gets very overlooked in the sports world, not only as content creators but also among athletes and teams that exist here. Colleges should be looking into the talent we have in our beautiful state much more and put more respect on the state and our athletes who have so much potential.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Growing up in Littleton and living here my whole life, I’ve discovered countless places that make this town truly special. If a friend were visiting, I’d want to show them the very best of what Littleton has to offer. Here’s how I’d plan our day:
We’d kick off the morning at Snooze A.M. Eatery in SouthGlenn. Then, we’d venture into downtown Littleton for a leisurely lunch at Smokin Fins, which has great food and an even better atmosphere.
After lunch, we’d head to Roxborough Park for a scenic hike. As the day winds down, we’d make our way to the Alamo Theatre for a movie and some fantastic food, rounding off our day with entertainment and good company.
Littleton is full of exciting activities and hidden gems. From exploring the numerous parks to experiencing the magic of Christmas in Downtown Littleton, there’s never a dull moment. For those who love the outdoors, Hudson Gardens and Chatfield Reservoir offer endless opportunities for adventure, whether it’s boating or simply enjoying the natural beauty.
There are so many hidden gems in Littleton including but not limited to Damascus Grill near downtown is a must-visit for authentic Syrian cuisine, while Sushi Mango is the go-to spot for incredible sushi. And for those who like sweets, Inside Scoop is the perfect place to have delicious ice cream and desserts.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the incredible individuals in my life who have inspired and supported me on my journey. Parker Anderson stands out as a pivotal figure, guiding me through the ropes of videography and photography, especially in the realm of sports. His mentorship and network have been invaluable, and even as his passions led him elsewhere, he remained a friend and supporter. To my school and the booster clubs of the Lacrosse, Football, and Basketball teams, I am deeply thankful for your unwavering confidence in me and your support. These past four years working with Arapahoe High School have been life-changing, and I owe much to my freshman football team for helping me discover my true potential when I was a young shy kid.
I must also extend my appreciation to Lemar Griffin, Robert Washington, Josh Ford, and all the videography veterans who have generously offered their guidance and support. Special mention goes to the @303collect media team, a group I am proud to have founded. Each member has contributed significantly, and I am grateful for their dedication to bringing our shared vision to life.
On a personal note, I am incredibly fortunate to have the love and support of my family, friends, girlfriend, and relatives. Their belief in me has been a driving force, pushing me to exceed my expectations. I am profoundly grateful for every one of them, as I wouldn’t be where I am today without their unwavering support. From pushing me to attend every event I can and prioritizing my dream to supporting every video or photo I produce they have always been there every step of the way.
