Meet Jackie Shepherd-Pettis | Owner, Managing Real Estate Broker
We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackie Shepherd-Pettis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve not always believed in taking risks. When I realized that Life is about being open to change and that my decisions deeply affect all aspects of my Life, I knew it was time to stop being afriad of taking that first step. One recent example is Our Purchase of the United Country Real Estate Franchise in Westcliffe in June of 2019. My husband, Wade Pettis, and I left stable but demanding corporate jobs in Dallas to start fresh in a small town. It has proven to be one of the best decisions we have made in our lives. We Love this quaint little town and giving back to the community comes naturally to us!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At United Country Real Estate | Wapiti Ranch Realty & Auction LLC we pride ourselves in prompt, courteous, and professional service. The major point that sets up apart from other Brokerages in this area is the United Country Marketing concept. We sell Lifestyles and it has worked for UC for well over 98 years now. We pride oursleves as having a Nationwide Reach while providing Local Expertise. Our current Buyer database includes over 1,000,000 prospective Buyers. Our success rides on the dedication we have to hard work, as well as learning along the way. Real Estate is not for the faint of heart, which makes it always interesting. Best part of our jobs is the friends we make along the way- We Love meeting new people and help them find their dream homes, land or recreational property.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would venture to say when freinds and family visit, it is imperable that they check out Bishops Castle, go for a hike on the Rainbow Trail and do a trail ride with Bear Basin Ranch. As far as eateries are concerned, The Alpine Lodge is an excellent place for great steaks and seafood, while the Silver West Feedstore serves up a more eclectic meal with out door seating and community events. Our favorite coffee shop waivers between Peregrine Coffee Roasters and Sugarlump, best known for their Amazing Cinnamon Rolls.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course, my husband Wade is my biggest supporter, but that goes without saying as he had the very same dream. We work very well as a team, which makes us successful in our business. We both are members of the Custer County Tourism Board and thoroughly enjoy serving the community in that fashion. This particular role has also been helpful in that being front and center, receive plenty of client referrals. Giving back is also important to us, so we contribute to such organizations as the Lighthouse Pregnancy Center, Vali Assisted Living and the Custer County Search & Rescue Team.
