We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Cade and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacob, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was in high school and learning everything it was they had to teach me I quickly realized I didn’t wanna work for anyone else but myself. Not because I have an issue with authority but because I have vision of my own that I believe people can get behind and could make a lot of people happy. With the help of my parents and close friends that support me 100% I was able to put a band together and start playing shows and becoming more acquainted with the business side of music as well as the music side. I’m still learning a lot and always will. But like I said, I’ve never wanted to do anything else but this.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are a pop band that play music heavily influenced by 80’s pop and rockstars such as Prince, Michael Jackson, and Eddie Van Halen. We’ve always said we wanted to separate ourselves by mixing that old school sound that we love with the modern waves of music such as bands like The Band Camino and The 1975. Getting to where we are today has definitely not been easy but we just persevered and somehow people started listening and coming to shows. We’re still not anywhere near where we want to be but it feels like we are on the right path. A big lesson we’ve learned is to trust yourself and not let anyone tell you you’re not good enough. As well as, take every opportunity to make connections and network you possibly can. Having friends helps. I want the world to know that we love all of our fans and hope to reach more and more. We wanna grow the family and create a vibe where everyone is welcome and everyone knows they are not alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to all my favorite honky tonk and cocktail bars. Sometime during the trip there would be a concert planned so we could go to a show and have a great time singing and dancing around. There would be a vintage shop or two to visit in there for sure. Also we’d hit my favorite Mexican, Italian, and Sushi restaurants. My favorite things to do are go to vibey bars and coffee shops. I like to shop for clothes and go check out live music. Museums interest me along with music stores and vintage shops. Honestly wherever I am I like to go to where the locals hang out and not so much the touristy things.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always been my biggest supports and made so many sacrifices to help me achieve my dream of being an artist and a musician. Every time I got down on myself every time I wanted to quit they helped me through it. They’re my biggest fans and I couldn’t do any of this without them. My buelo and buela played a big part in raising me and making me the person that I am. I owe a lot of my music inspirations my not being afraid to be on stage being myself to them. My band has always been there for me through thick and thin. They’re my best friends and I 100% wouldn’t have been able to have The BRKN without them. We’re brothers.
