We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacopo Arcangeli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacopo, what’s your definition for success?
I think the term success can be defined in three different typologies: there is economic success, success which means increasing notoriety and success deriving from your personal growth. I am strongly convinced that only through a process of inner growth, with the aim of conquering a goal we want, we can earn the highest level of success which is satisfaction with ourselves.
The other two kinds of success are complementary to our satisfaction, but will always be secondary to our happiness.
You can have a good salary, or be well know in your community, or both.
But if you are not happy with what you do and, looking back, you are not satisfied with the sacrifice you made for your goal, then it cannot be called true success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I was a kid, I saw some martial arts demonstrations. I remember that I was bewitched to see that strange movements that came from afar, full of principles and philosophy, so artistic and so strong too. I thought which it was some kind of magic that I’d absolutely want to learn. After more than 20 years of practices, I taked the black belt in Aikido Evolution, Iaido and Krav Maga. Last year, I take the qualification of Master of Aikido Evolution.
Evolution is a new style of Aikido codified by M° Zarif Dei during his many decades of experience in this martial art. It’s a real honor to become the first master of Aikido Evolution, after my master Zarif.
I am also a great lover of literature. I love so much to write and read book since I was a child, that at the age of about ten I wrote my first fan-fiction based on a new hypothetical sequel to the best-seller Jurassic Park by Micheal Crichton (my great source of inspiration).
Fortunatley, the passion for writing did not end. But rather towards the late adolescence I began to write some drafts of unpublished novels.
My first novel “Checkmate”, published in 2021 by Elison Publishing, is the fulfillment of a dream born many years earlier.
Thanks to the interest created around my debut as a author, in 2022 I signed a representation contract with a important literary agency Brassotti Agency & Associati to curate and promote my works in Italy and abroad.
I sould be able to do some great announcement during this year or next.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s a complicated question for me, because I love traveling and visiting new places every time, getting to know new cultures and growing personally through these experiences. So it is difficult to choose a particular itinerary.
Being able to move with a time machine that can teleport us, in a hypothetical universe, I think I would start my journey from Florence and then move to the main Tuscan cities (my home), to admire the most incredible architectural and natural beauties. Food is an integral part of Italian culture, particularly the Tuscan one, so it would accompany me and my guests in total harmony with the environment.
Looking to distant countries from Italy, I would like them to see the coral reef of the Red Sea and admire the Temple of Kukulkan in the Yucatan.
I would take them to visit New York, with its incredible buildings and timeless charm, but I plan to visit many more in the United States of America. One of them is Colorado, without a doubt!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my beloved Chiara, for always being by my side in every choice I make. I owe her that I am a martial arts master and a novelist. To my family, for supporting me both emotionally and materially.
To my tatami friends from Fenix Fight Team Pistoia and Scuola Loto Rosso, without whom I would never have become who I am today.
And last but not least, to the martial arts masters Zarif and Florin.
