We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Robarge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by the connection that my camera allows me to have with people. Since taking up photography and building community connections, I’ve found that my camera has allowed me to meet just about anyone. It’s amazing to go from strangers to close all friends all because of the connection made during a photo shoot. It continuously inspires me to keep meeting and working together with new people.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Going back to the first question, I’m really proud of the community I’ve built and the amazing people I’ve had the opportunity to work with over the years. Being authentic and having the ability to adapt and evolve has come worked in my advantage over the years. I’ve learned that being kind and humble (especially to yourself) will get you very far. It’s not easy but we know nothing worth having is ever easy. You’re never stuck. I started my business as a single mother to an 8 month old with .44 cents in my bank account. I had nothing to lose. I’ve learned so much as a parent and a business owner over the years and the biggest take away is “you’re never stuck.” There’s always another way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Viva Wellness, The Bronzeville Collective MKE, Legato Collective, Gadis Beauty Studio, Unordinary Omen Floristry, Prestige Studios MKE, MOR Bakery, Cream City Print Lounge, 414loral, Tropic Cafe, Ghost Light Tattoo Parlor.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve received so much support throughout the years it’s hard to just shoutout one person. I have to recognize my mother, Stacy Robarge. Being raised by a teacher will show you that life is all about learning. My mom allowed me to choose my destiny and supported me along every step of the way, even when she knew it wasn’t the right move. My mom understood that I needed to make mistakes and learn on my own. She always supported me and never made me feel alone throughout it all.
