We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
My attention to detail is the biggest contributor to my success. It can be tiresome and overwhelming at times but not everyone is willing to go the extra mile. This is what separates the good from the great. Paying close attention to detail in my photography is what helps it stand out. This also applies to all facets of business. The more attention you pay to the customer will help you stand out in their mind and bring them back time and time again.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a photographer. I have been doing it for several years now but have only recently found some success and that’s fine. Much like anything else in life it is not easy. So many people commend me on my work but it was only recent that I started to believe it myself. It is a constant grind as there are many things to learn in photography and even more so as it relates to the business of photography. Either way, it takes perseverance and fortunately that is something I have. If I set my mind to something I will not stop until I achieve whatever that is. I now have made many connections in the photography world and am getting my name out there. My biggest accomplishment to date is having one of my photos selected for the cover of a magazine…something I never dreamed would happen!

The one thing that separates my photography from others as I have no boundaries. What do I mean by this? I don’t simply shoot one type of photography. I started in landscape photography but then found myself spending more time in the city so I began to shoot just that. Now, I am intrigued by all types of photography so I continue to expand my capabilities and shoot whatever brings me joy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a mountain guy first and foremost so we would obviously head straight to the mountains. My favorite areas to explore are the San Juan mountains so we would head southwest. We would obviously do some hiking but if I could convince them we would step it up and do some backpacking as well. Either way, we will be camping as I love to spend all of my time in the great outdoors and under the stars at night. I’m a morning person so I most certainly would get us up early to shoot sunrise. After we ventured out for some hiking/backpacking I think we’d find a local hot springs and take a dip to soothe our aching bodies. I’m fairly easy going so we’d find some grub somewhere in Ouray or Telluride depending on exactly where we ended up. And this would essentially be a wash, rinse, repeat scenario as we would continue to do this each day throughout the trip (minus the “rinse” part as we likely wouldn’t have a shower). We would definitely stop by the Mt Sneffels Wilderness Area as Mt Sneffels is my favorite mountain in all of Colorado. There are countless amazing hikes in the area so we would just pick a trailhead and go. After we checked a couple of summits off of our list we would head home to finally relax as I’m not into that when I’m out adventuring!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
SOS Outreach – they are a local nonprofit that helps get underserved, at-risk youth, into the outdoors. I’ve chosen this group as they have helped form the man I have become today. I made a huge change in my life almost 10 years ago by getting sober and at that point determined it was time to give back. I looked for organizations that I thought I may enjoy working with and came across them as their goals aligned with mine. They provide access to the outdoors through activities like snowboarding, hiking and backpacking. These are all activities I find dear to my heart so I thought it was a perfect fit. I have been mentoring with them ever since. As a volunteer, you assume that you are the one doing good and teaching others but in my case it was much the opposite. I’ve learned more about life and what it’s really all about working with this organization in the last 10 years than I could ever hope to pass on. And for that, I will be forever grateful!
