Meet Jana Donohoe | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jana Donohoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jana, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The interior design industry is often associated with aesthetics and creating beautiful spaces, but there are several aspects that most people may not be aware of. We do extensive planning and research. Interior designers don’t simply pick out furniture and colors. We invest significant time in research, studying the space’s architecture, staying updated with the latest materials and technologies and have an understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and accessibility guidelines. I always consider factors like traffic flow, furniture placement, and storage solutions to make the most of available space well before the aesthetics of the space(s).

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love what I do. I have an incredible passion for interiors and helping my clients achieve a space that is truly uplifting and unique to them. The interior design business is very word of mouth driven. It was slow to start business almost 10 years ago but as I gained clients and confidence in what I was doing, it eventually exploded and I started getting more dream projects. The interior design business has never been easy, it can be very complex in how to run this type of business, and to find other professionals to help you manage those complexities is always a challenge as well. As with most businesses you eventually find the right people that fit with your vision. You learn to think fast, adapt and problem solve every single day.
When most people think about hiring an interior designer, they tend to focus strictly on the aesthetics of a project. But really, that’s just scratching the surface of what I can bring to a project. I go beyond just cosmetic concerns to ensure that a space feels harmonious throughout; from smart space planning, and architectural details to final touches that make your space unique. I am able to envision, plan and outfit spaces in a way that make them both beautiful and functional.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely be going to the Denver art museum, Botanic Gardens, Larimer Square and Red Rocks. We’d probably have to try out the beer spa at some point and hit a show at comedy works.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve met some of my best friends and biggest fans through professional networks, Facebook groups and industry shows for interior designers. Being with like- minded professionals is a great way to share knowledge, insights, and best practices within our industry. We all have different perspectives and experiences. I’ve been really lucky to gain valuable insights, learn from others’ successes and failures, and stay updated on the latest trends and innovations through these industry opportunities.
