We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Van De Hey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, what principle do you value most?
It may sound simple, or even cliché, but the value that matters most to me is kindness. I think if more people found ways to just be kind to each other on a daily basis, the world would look and feel very different. Small acts of kindness, such as, smiling at a stranger, giving a much needed hug or even just listening to someone can create a positive ripple effect for everyone.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in the beauty industry for over twenty years. I’ve always loved doing hair but what I truly love about my job, is my clientele. I’m lucky to get to know people that I probably wouldn’t encounter if I didn’t do hair. I see clients every few weeks or months and get to be part of their journey in a peripheral way. I’ve seen clients through marriages, divorces, births, deaths, laughter, tears and every emotion in between. I don’t take that for granted. Last year I was fortunate enough to be able to open my own salon space. A driving factor in that was that I wanted to create a space for my clients that felt safe, comfortable and relaxing. A space for the two of us to connect, share and enjoy. I’ve worked incredibly hard throughout my career and I cannot express how proud I am to see what I’ve accomplished.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I consider myself very fortunate to have a wonderful community around me. I have an amazing husband, a loving family, tremendous friends and a fantastic clientele.
