We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaxen Spurs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaxen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me it was about making my career more than just about my music. Being on stage is truly a blessing but my heart has always been in helping other people. Saved By .Wavs was a way for me to contribute in a bigger way while still pursuing my passion and sharing my life through music.
What should our readers know about your business?
Saved By .Wavs is an incredible thing to be a part of and I am super grateful. It’s an entirely new business model for the music industry and I’m very excited to share.
First and foremost, it’s a non profit record label, primarily dedicated to donating a monthly amount to education, by way of hosting the first ever economy concerts.
An economy concert is a concert that only uses local distributors. Everything from food. To alcohol , to merchandise , is all provided by local family owned suppliers. The profit from the show is donated to the local school system.
By promoting our app on stage, the artists are paid as representatives of the non profit.
Aside from being a part of the community, our hearts are also with the artists.
We have recently secured short term rental properties and PA systems to accommodate a touring artist in 8 different major cities across the us. We have trained band members in each of the locations as well.
Not only reducing travel cost to just the artist flying between shows, but we have also turned hotel cost into an income for the label.
Artists are the first to be paid and are treated as independent contractors. Responsible for building their team with their finances, made by their brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m an outdoorsy kind of guy, but I’m also a sucker for some pool. Favorite local spot to hang in hands down is Blooms Mill Hill. Something about the atmosphere and the local vibe just keeps me going back.
I think headed out to 11 mile has been the most memorable outdoor experience for me, but make sure you check out the local fishing scene. 11 mile is a blast if you make it out there with some good friends.
Catching some music at the Black Rose Acoustic Society has probably been one of my favorite times out here as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have received so much guidance along the way, and I think overall a lot of my current motivation has come from a guy named Tom Ferry. As a life coach Tom guides people towards success in a 360 way that just moves everyone around him. He’s truly been an advocate for me and my music, and has always been very supportive.
