We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Fieldhack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Reflecting upon my food journey, I realized the need for basic nutrition education. We’re not taught one of the most important things in life, what and how to eat. My initial studies were primarily in cognitive function and psychology. When I graduated with my second master’s, that’s when the light bulb moment happened. Regardless of disease (albeit diabetes or diverticulitis), the root of all illnesses is inflammation, and I knew that a diet in whole foods could significantly help reverse it.

The second thought process came when most of my friends couldn’t believe the changes I made and how I was eating now. I realized how significant it was and that if I could go from a Diet Coke and Doritos Diet that others could benefit as well. So I created a program designed to help people transition towards a healthier life with simple, effective, and lasting steps that can be incorporated into daily life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I left a career in pharma/med device and began to educate myself on how to eat healthily. When I decided to make the career change, I was living neither a healthy nor a harmonious lifestyle; too much work, not enough balance and processed food had caught up with me: in other words, CRAP (Chemicals, Refined Sugars, Additives and Preservatives). My SAD diet (Standard American Diet) was taking its toll. I had several health challenges and was motivated to get healthy. The personal change was so astounding that I decided to pursue a master’s degree in nutrition (MScN) at the National University of Natural Medicine.

With my background and education in behavioral health sciences and master’s degree in Nutrition (B.S. M.S. MScN), I created an 8-Step program so that others can overcome the obstacles that have prevented them from getting healthy, losing weight, and embracing overall wellness. I’m most proud of implementing this program in the city where I live, to all of the city employees. It was an incredible experience that was very rewarding.

I want the world to know that if I can go from where I was to living a healthy lifestyle, anyone can do it. I’ve learned that you just have to want it badly enough.

Here are a few things about me that will give you a little insight:

I’m………a wacky whole food nut, nutritionist and part-time comedian.
I help…….humans overcome the hurdles (and excuses) to healthy eating.
Why…because humans have challenges that prevent them from getting healthy.
I know……..how amazing you will feel by removing crap and eating whole foods!
Eating is………a balance of moderation & variation. Not deprivation.
Favorite drink…………tea (and champagne).
I like……….to ride my bicycle.
I’m very………compassionate about shelter animals, rescuing and adopting dogs.
Favorite food……French fries (Yep, that’s right!)
I find …..humor in everything. A sprinkle of science with a dash of satire is how I roll.
I prefer to…….…SUP, Hike and Rollerblade.
I love……….to dance.
I would bring……….the party (and of course some healthy dip)!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well you’ve come to the right person! I’ve been called the unofficial, unpaid, FOCO spokesperson. We moved here in 2019 and love Colorado. I’ve had friends visit and quickly realize why we moved here. I enjoy entertaining and exploring every town in this magical state. This place fills my heart with joy and lungs with mountain air!

The list is endless, but if I had to share some local places to go, here are the most fun and interesting ones:
Music: Mishawaka, Aggie Theatre, Magic Rat and Washington’s
Hiking: Horsetooth Reservoir
Food/Drinks: Tasty Harmony, DGT Tacos, Bread Chic, Slyce Pizza, Illegal Petes, Happy Lucky’s Teahouse
Fun: Comedy Fort and The Lyric
Bike/Rollerblade: Poudre Trail
Day Trip: RMNP, Estes, and RedFeather
Hot Springs: Strawberry Steamboat Springs
Road Trip: Lyons, Trinidad, Telluride, Rifle Gap, Brainard Lake, Black Canyon, Crested Butte, Turquoise Lake, Leadville and Granby

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is one individual, 2 books. and one school that deserves a big shoutout.

While I was working in the pharmaceutical industry, I would read fervently at night about factory farming. The books, Animal Factory and Eating Animals, are the ones that made a big impact on me. My husband was the person that saw the interest and inspired me to go back to school.

The University I attended (National University of Natural Medicine) is an excellent program with a blend of naturopathic and oriental medicine, research, and studies in global health. The medical school is in Portland, Oregon, an awesome city that is very involved in the health food movement. As students, we had daily access to farmer’s markets and farmers, with a heightened awareness for sustainability and engagement with the environment, I was accepted into the very first inaugural program and the overall experience was life changing.
