We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Fly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
That I am a leader. I was never looking for a position in leadership or management, but repeatedly throughout my career, I have ended up there. I think it boils down to truly caring about other people and wanting to see them succeed. One of the best parts of my day is hearing about one of my agents’ wins. And knowing that I have helped them along their path to success brings me so much joy.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Like most people that end up here, I didn’t plan a career in real estate. My dream was to go to law school. Life threw me a few curveballs with the sudden loss of my mother when I was 17, and then at 18 I had my daughter, Mary, which changed my trajectory entirely. A career in real estate just made sense to me at the time, and I worked for a successful luxury agent in Boulder while I finished my finance degree at CU and got my real estate license. From there I spent 7 years working for a luxury real estate developer, which gave me great insight into many facets of the business. After my son, Jack, was born, I decided to move into sales full-time, and spent the next 15 years working for a luxury boutique firm in Boulder, the last 6 as their Vice President.

When I was approached by the leaders of mhm in 2021, I was quite comfortable in my role and not really looking for a change. That is, until I saw what they were doing. I was truly blown away by milehimodern’s approach to real estate, and their commitment to excellence and challenging the mediocrity that is so often demonstrated in this business. Once I knew what else was out there, there was no turning back for me.

It definitely hasn’t been easy. I have witnessed up and down markets, and the stress that comes with both. My dad, who was a stockbroker, used to say that in this business, “You wake up every day unemployed”, and it’s true. I don’t think it’s possible to be truly successful without taking some risks. You have to put yourself out there, risk rejection, and sometimes work incredibly hard without ever making a dime.

But the flip side is so satisfying. I truly believe that we have the ability to change lives – first with our agents, by developing the absolute best professionals in the business. And then from there, with our clients, by consistently providing them with the level of luxury bespoke service they deserve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in such a beautiful, vibrant community, it’s hard to choose just a few things.

I would start off with a hike in Eldorado Springs with my dog Cali, or a a hot yoga class, a stop by the Louisville or Boulder Farmer’s Market, followed by a picnic lunch on the green at Chautauqua.

My husband and I love to bar and restaurant-hop around Boulder. Some of our favorites: cocktails on the roof at Corrida or Rosetta Hall at sunset, a dozen oysters at Jax Fish House, the world’s best kale salad at Oak at Fourteenth, a nightcap or dessert at Stella’s Cucina.

I also just discovered the most amazing new place in Louisville: Nora’s Speakeasy. Very swanky space with amazing cocktails – highly recommend!

And of course, you can’t beat a concert at Red Rocks on a beautiful summer night. It’s one of my favorite places in the world!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am endlessly grateful to our owners, Carla Thompson and Carmelo Paglialunga for offering me the opportunity to join their leadership team and bring the incredible milehimodern brand to Boulder. We have the most amazing leadership team, staff and agents, and I feel extremely lucky to get to spend my days surrounded by people who care deeply about bringing the highest level of service to their clients and the community.
