We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Halper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor in my success is truly being myself. I find that, especially in the field of mental health, authenticity is really important because people who come to see me are usually at their most vulnerable, and no one wants to open up to a stranger who comes off as disingenuous. At times, utilizing my own personal experience has helped create tremendous success in my business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have a couple of businesses, actually. My main business is my private practice-I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado and New York. I started my private practice in December 2016 and have successfully moved it from Long Island, NY to Buffalo, NY, and now to Colorado! I currently run a fully Telehealth practice. I treat mental health in adolescents, adults, and families. I specialize in treating trauma with a specific form of therapy, called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Finding your niche and your ideal client is really important in creating a successful practice. Part of my business is to also help other therapists launch their private practices, as it is not the easiest to do alone and there are a lot of moving parts to it. It’s nice to have guidance from others, which I had a little bit of, but I mostly tried to figure things out on my own.
I have another business with a good friend and therapy colleague, called wellmindspace LLC. We created and launched a workbook (on Amazon) designed to help individuals who have a history of, or are currently, self-harming. We plan to create a podcast, as well as create more workbooks/journals!

What I want the world to know about my story is that a lot of my success and motivation comes from my own past struggles and my ability to relate to a lot of my clients, whether they know that or not. Our wellmindpace workbook, for example, is something I wish I had when I was younger and struggling with my own mental health. I have worked extremely hard to cultivate successful businesses and have learned that it’s okay to ask other people for help along the way. I also want the world to know that healing is possible and even when you don’t believe that, believe that I believe it’s possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I’m still pretty new to Colorado, I’ll have to just mention the places I’ve been thus far, which include Red Rocks (the most incredible venue I’ve ever seen), skiing at Keystone Mountain, hiking in Boulder, and walks in the green spaces in my new neighborhood in Broomfield! The views of the mountains will never get old.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have supported me throughout the years! First and foremost, my mom, who is my rock and my inspiration, and my step-dad. The amazing mentors I have had throughout the years, personally and professionally, such as Dr. Jamie Marich, who trained me in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and helped shape the way I treat trauma; Khris Decker, my former VP of Behavioral Health at Evergreen Health Services and good friend; Dr. Lois Carey, my undergraduate Social Work professor at Molloy University, who guided me to be the social worker I am today; my incredible group of friends from growing up and my time living in Buffalo, NY, and my boyfriend/partner, Cameron, thank you for loving me and always encouraging me to tap into my business mindset as a strong female.
