We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Ibbotson Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The most ‘unknown’ thing about hypnosis is the truth that, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Sadly, there are so many maintaining the unfortunate misperception that it is a form of “mind-control” or “magic” when, essentially, hypnosis is an extreme form of mindfulness recognized medically as a focused awareness to such an extent it excludes all peripheral stimuli. Most walk around in ‘a trance of disillusionment’ as Milton Erikson termed it maintained by what I call ‘societal-hypnosis’ which is instilling limiting thoughts about who they are and their place in the world. Hypnosis is simply a powerful personal tool providing acute mindfulness of focus, on purpose for purpose to illuminate these misperceptions and limiting thoughts, their roots, and how to eradicate them – forever.

Hypnosis provides anyone who chooses to utilize it the metaphorical bridge between our neural-plastic habits and the quantum-realm of all life’s possibilities. Exactly for the same reason hypnosis has been easily accepted as a go-to for quick weight-loss and smoking cessation for decades, it works for any journey to live the life you want to live. Simply, because hypnosis works directly with the limitless database of our entire existence (the subconscious mind) aligning it with and empowering our point of focus (the conscious mind) as well as cultivating our physical and internal wisdom (the unconscious mind).

When practiced regularly though, hypnosis actually fixes the cracks in the foundation of the law of attraction so many discouragingly believe is all a hoax. Once our pasts are healed and we are connected with our future-selves, we can truly live fully in our NOW!

What should our readers know about your business?
There is a common belief that the final stage of one’s healing process happens when they begin to help others heal.

As a consulting hypnotist in private practice my personal passion is in the healing capabilities trauma survivors intrinsically have within them, almost like a super-power. It was being under the towers on September 11, 2001 that began my own longest recovery journey to date, during which I married a disabled combat veteran attempting to heal from his own personal traumas as well.

The journey of healing, and how it is controlled by the mindset of the one healing, is both overwhelming and empowering. Understanding this personally and professionally allows me to compassionately customize the healing-space for those who seek my hypnotic-coaching services.

If you have heard the analogy that healing is like an onion…that we peal back our pains and heal layer by layer until finishing. I respectfully disagree with this! What if instead of working backwards, pealing each layer back until there is nothing left of us; what if we healed forward, becoming ever-blooming?

I believe you can know the scent of your future-self rather than the stench of what you are courageously leaving behind. Yes, it’s true; we can heal our pasts. But we change our futures, every day in every way.

Respectfully, it is my perspective that my profession can, at times, overly focus on digging in the past.

Choosing a more future-forward approach to comfortably and confidently connect my clients with their successful paths being sought is not revolutionary, of course. Though, I am genuinely honored to have been invited to be a faculty presenter at this year’s annual convention of the National Guild of Hypnotists to suggest that future-progression is the future of our profession.

Like a personal-trainer in a gym walks a client through all the equipment and how to use them for the results they have learned their client is trying to accomplish, I am a mental-coach. I empower my clients to understand their brains, how to utilize them for their greatest good, to get their desired results. Like any misunderstood area of life, the clarity comes within the learning process.

I will admit it now, I think hypnosis is magic-like…because, I consider magic simply tricks we haven’t learned yet. So, I teach my clients the magic of being the boss of their own brains so they can master their own minds. Ooooops, you caught me…hypnosis is a form of mind-control after all. PERSONAL mind control!

And that’s what makes me different…I like to de-mystify what hypnosis actually is while I de-hypnotize my clients from their personal limitations. That way, they can take their magic with them into their futures, as far as they choose.

Ironically, my professional understanding of what the brain can learn and unlearn can be the most challenging part of being a hypnotist. Because I understand what is actually possible and how to accomplish it, because I understand the power of focus and perspective and mindset, my responsibility as an entrepreneur and caregiver can be a constant reminder of my humanness. The ongoing challenges of the pandemic compounding it all, for all of us.

The glory of my profession is that I am at the forefront of the solutions. The tools and tactics are at my daily disposal to prove and provide. The harmonious coupling to that final stage of healing is the reality that the best way to internalize learning is to teach it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Such a fun and inspiring question, practically hypnotic!

I can just imagine it now…the week is the last week of August. The temperature is just right, just about everywhere. The mountains still accessible and at their most gloriously flower-covered green. Having grown up in the Roaring Fork Valley I would begin the adventure there, waking up from camping breathing in heaven’s air. I would share my childhood playground, Difficult Campground, the trees and river and freedom all around.

We would eventually venture down, past the old mining-town; I can’t claim to still be in ‘the know’ of Aspen anymore. We would stop in Carbondale though, for river-rafting I would take my friends (we’ll just call them Russell and Ciara) floating freely.

We would feast eagerly afterwards, if a little early, at Honey Butter…utterly unsure if it will be the fried chicken or the milkshakes that will keep us coming back for more and more!

Instead of following the highway we would wind our way up old 133 to the most famous marble quarry. After a deep sleep our adventure would truly begin…from peak to peak we would make our way back, atop horses of course. Ciara and I honoring all the games Russell is surely about to win!

Photography and selfies at the base of The Bells would end our adventure with memories to inspire all with the dedication about to flourish into win upon win.

A blink of the eye in the air and back in Denver we’d eventually have to be…sipping happily, if not precipitously, at the Corridor 44 the upcoming Super Bowl Win(s) surely in all of our collective futures.
