We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Weiler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am a native Coloradoan. I grew up in Grand Junction, CO and moved to the Denver Metro area in 1995. Growing up, my family didn’t have a lot of money but we had each other. I think this allowed me to understand what was really important in my life, and that is relationships and finding joy in the small moments of life. I was always the person my friends sought out for support and it was a natural progression to become a therapist. I was also taught from a young age that my body and my “gut” always has the right answer. I was given permission to always trust this knowing inside me. I use this lesson as an expert in the treatment of trauma. I teach my clients to listen to their inner wisdom to heal and keep themselves safe.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Stacy and I started Connections Counseling in 2011 with four other women after the agency we all worked at made some systemic changes to our counseling program. We started small and learned what it was like to own our own business. Three of the women moved on for different reasons and Stacy and I have been the two co-owners since 2014. We are always working to achieve a work-life balance, which can be challenging when you are a business owner.

We expanded our office space and remodeled the space next door to add more treatment rooms and a massage and yoga space. We created a clinical training program in 2017 and have begun to teach beginning new clinicians from area universities and we are in our fifth year of doing this program. There is always challenges when growing the business, but we have been able to create a space and a team that is trauma focused and cohesive.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I adore living in Denver. There is always something fun to do, or a new great spot to eat. I love to Mountain Bike and drink whiskey and be outdoors. The week long itinerary would include a couple of days Mountain biking in Fruita and Winter Park, Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, then enjoying some city time visiting some of my favorite places. Of course, this has to include some of our amazing distilleries. Stranahan’s Colorado Single Malt Whiskey is my very favorite, so a trip there would definitely be in order. I would also visit some of the other distilleries in Denver, including The Block Distillery in Rhino and a microbrew place as well. Some of my favorites are Mockery Brewery and Great Divide. Of course, as a Colorado Girl at heart, no tour of Denver is complete without an iconic Coors Brewery Tour. There is nothing like a Coors Banquet after a great mountain bike ride. I would finish off the week with a fabulous steak dinner from Guard and Grace.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been lucky to have so many amazing friends and family throughout my life. I have close relationships with my sisters and my parents, decades long friendships, a loving marriage that ended lovingly as we grew apart, and now a partner who supports me. My business partner and Co-owner of Connections Counseling, Stacy Sheridan has been a friend for over 14 years and we have pushed each other to grow this business over the last 11 years.
