We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Dewbre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began crocheting during the COVID quarantine. While everyone was baking sourdough, I was watching YouTube videos to teach myself how to crochet. My COVID craft quickly turned into an obsession, and soon I was making scarves, hats, and blankets for my two daughters. Eventually I started making stuffed animals for them, and then all my friends kiddos’ began wanting them too! When I started my crochet business making stuffed animals for kids, I wanted to create something unique and handmade that would bring joy to children. I’ve always had a passion for crafting, and I saw an opportunity to turn that passion into a business while also spreading happiness through my creations. Additionally, I wanted to have the flexibility to work from home and set my own schedule, allowing me to prioritize both my business and my personal life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My crochet business, specializing in handmade stuffed animals for kids, is a labor of love that combines my passion for crafting with the joy of bringing smiles to children’s faces. What sets my creations apart is the attention to detail and the personalized touch I put into each piece. I take pride in using high-quality materials and craftsmanship to ensure that every stuffed animal is not only adorable but also durable and safe for children to play with.
Getting to where I am today hasn’t been easy. Like any business, I faced challenges along the way, from sourcing materials to finding my niche. However, I overcame these obstacles through perseverance, creativity, and a willingness to learn. I sought out mentorship and resources within the crafting community, honed my skills through practice, and constantly adapted my business strategies to meet the evolving needs of my customers.
Through this journey, I’ve learned valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to my vision. I’ve discovered that success is not just about making sales but also about making meaningful connections with customers and creating products that bring happiness and warmth into people’s lives.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that each stuffed animal I create is infused with love and care. Behind every stitch is a story of creativity, dedication, and a deep passion for spreading joy. When you choose one of my handmade creations, you’re not just buying a toy – you’re investing in a piece of art that will be cherished for years to come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Fort Collins, CO for a week, I’d make sure they experience the best the city has to offer! Fort Collins is such a beautiful place to live, and I would want to make sure my friend got to experience the stunning scenery and outdoor adventures here. We would explore Old Town Fort Collins, and stroll along the charming streets lined with boutiques and cafes. Then, we would head to Horsetooth Reservoir for a morning hike or bike down the Cache La Poudre River trail. I’d make sure to take my friend on a scenic drive to Rocky Mountain National Park for a day of hiking, wildlife spotting and breathtaking views. I’d also take my friend to experience the live music at the Mishawaka Amphitheater, in the Poudre Canyon and known for its scenic beauty and eclectic concert lineup.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! Starting a crochet business involves a lot of learning and support along the way. I’d like to give a shoutout to the online crochet community, where I found inspiration, advice, and encouragement from fellow crocheters. Additionally, my friends and family deserve recognition for their unwavering support and belief in my abilities. Without their encouragement, I may not have had the confidence to take the leap into entrepreneurship.
